The Homesman is another good one. It's a little slow and bleak though.

>before "woke" was an issue. Where any movie with a woman in the lead is a champion for 'the cause'.....

Quick and the Dead is a great film, desu.

Stellar cast and director.

Leo breaking out at the time.
>before this, he was just known as the retarded kid in "What's eating Gilbert Grape?".

Crowe's debuting in his first US movie.

Sharon Stone.
>inches before hitting the wall. I'd say the last "sexy" movie she did before allowing her age to determine her later works.

Lots of 'guess who' casting:
Tobin Bell
>Saw
Keith David
>staple black guy
Lance Henriksen
>James Cameron's go-to extra
Pat Hingle
>Burton's Commissioner Gordon
Gary Sinise
>Lt. DAN!
Mark Boone Junior

And Sam Raimi, who probably got the Spiderman job for this movie.

When I think of insanely overqualified talent adapting a horrible script this is the first fucking movie that pops up in my head. This is Raimi coming right off Army of Darkness with one of the most stacked casts in motion picture history. The reason this isn't a known classic is because the script is that bad. Screenwriters should be ashamed. Also wish the Bruce Campbell scenes weren't cut.

The Missing predates The Homesman by a decade (and has half as many known actors) but I'd put them on the same shelf. Especially because of Cate Blanchett, who was a phenomenal female lead.

Crawford had no business looking that good at almost 50 years old. I also loved how the title character was almost like a MacGuffin who instead of saving the day (okay, aside from the hanging scene) often took the backseat and just let the story unfold.

>Gene Hackman
I really liked how in Public Enemy he completly overshadowed Will Smith
