This. They didn't even bother thinking about casting. They just knew they needed big star talent and a woman because MIB is male coded and that's a crime against humanity in wokelywood. It also has Ghostbusters 2016 energy where everything feels like it was shot on green screen.

It's because it's not a MIB movie
It's a marvel movie with MIB costumes and props
Felt the exact same way about the first season of Star Trek Discovery
I suspect it also has to do with bad writing, and kiddos nowaday thinking they are really really really smart for making the "old mentor or friend is actually a traitor" twist.
