Inglourious Basterds is his peak. Every scene is memorable in some way. The only other movie that can rival it is Pulp Fiction.

Inglourious Basterds is probably his most fun film, but it lacks the depth and character study of Jackie Brown and OUATIH. Pulp Fiction starts out pretty good, but Mia scenes and the entire Gold Watch segment bring it down a lot. By the time The Wolf showed up I was hoping it to end already.

Rewatches made The Hateful Eight my favorite movie. Everything on A is infinitely rewatchable. I don't hate Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds, but I hate the faggotry of people who masturbate to the themes. It's not necessarily nostalgia. It's just that younger people don't understand what it was like back then. Like if you were alive in the 90s or watched it back then, you just get it. It's like how Harvey Keitel's character drives an NSX. That car was considered uber cool when the film came out. Whereas to a zoomer, it's just some 90s sports car.

I like when it's clear that Tarantino was having fun making the movie. I get this impression from OUATIH, Kill Bill, or Reservoir Dogs. To a lesser extent from Inglorious Basterds too.
But The Hateful Eight just seems like it was not fun for him and it kind of shows on screen, I didn't enjoy it much because it seemed like half the people involved didn't either.

Taratino is not some genius moviemaker but he's a guy who fucking loves movies and wants to express his love by making more, and when it's clear that the movie is a fruit of this love, then it's really enjoyable because you can share this love with him. But sometimes it feels like the movie is not a product of love but rather a broken condom. Then it sucks.

A lot of zoomers and pseuds in this thread it seems
Anyone who grew up during the 80s and/or 90s and sees the drivel hollywood serves us today should have realized how hard it is to make a good action movie that's both entertaining and aesthetically pleasing
Kill Bill is an absolute masterpiece when it comes to this and I'd have really a hard time believing you didn't have a fun time watching it (vol 2 is another beast entirely but it's still pretty good)
You shit on it because you think you're expected to, because you assume that a straightforward revenge flick that doesn't really touch on any serious themes should automatically be disqualified from being put on the same level as arthouse films or something
I think that's completely wrong and that this line of thinking is the reason why film discussion always sounds pretentious, and listing your favorite movies ends up being a performative act

I'm not sure what people see in it apart from the "vibe" or that maybe it's "comfy" and a period piece. The characters aren't interesting, like his other 21st century films -- the dialogue isn't interesting like it could be in his 90s films, the story isn't interesting, etc. Only thing I can see that makes it likable is the period aspect, and maybe a couple funny parts. At least it didn't devolve into cartoon violence like Django etc., but I don't understand the fondness for this film.

You are right to rank Kill Bill so low (maybe a little harsh but definitely they deserve no higher than C) but you've put Basterds and OUATIH way too high both should be bumped down to B. You are clearly trolling with Django which even with its plodding middle deserves A. Absolutely correct about Jackie Brown, easily his best

Why do people rate Inglorious Basterds so low?

I don't think people appreciate how fucking beautifully colored the film is, and how fucking good the set design is. Legitimately one of the most nice films to look at in terms of visuals. Definitely the most pretty out of Tarantino's films.

The movie lambasts jew revenge porn. It serves to show that the Nazis in the cinema cheering on Frederick Zoller's comical killing of allied soldiers are no different than the audience (jews) cheering on the murder of the Nazi commander who refused to give up his men. Aldo and his men are literally the villain of the film.

Sure, he kisses kike feet I'm sure, but I personally dont find Basterds to be a movie solely produced so that Harvey Weinstein and the other hollyjews could jack off to seeing le filthy nazis be slaughtered. It's a far more complex and interesting movie than that.

>Kill Bill almost universally rated low
>Why is that? I like the movie(s) and they're really fun to watch.
in my case i see kill bill not as two separate, but one really long movie. it makes no sense to watch first and not second one the next day or immediately after (and it makes even less sense to just watch the second). when rated separately, id say that first is slightly better package even though second one imo has more interesting scenes. the problem with vol2 is bad pacing, filler, the ending is anticlimactic, especially by kill bill standards, and it is just not as polished as it should be

when you put it all together, you get a movie that is about 4 hours long and while it starts strong, everything gets progressively worse as it goes on (with occasional good moments) and the ending is unsatisfying. kill bill, once upon a time and deathproof are only tarantino movies that i never rewatched. at least i enjoyed kill bill when i saw it, even if it didnt leave the kind of impression that would make me want to watch it again. i was miserable the whole time i watched unce upon a time and deathproof. thats why i ranked it higher

Close enough.

My top 3 are definitely reservoir dogs, once upon a time, and Jackie Brown

Inglorious bastards and pulp fiction are obviously iconic kino, i could understand someone calling either his best, but for me personally theyre 2nd tier

Death proof and kill bill are tier 3. I don't really rewatch them.

Man I never want to watch hateful 8 or Django again. These movies suffer from unchecked nigger derangement syndrome, they give me second-hand embarrassment when I watch them. Tarantino needs to avoid black characters and topics. Hope his next one avoids these pitfalls.

Idgaf if contrarians like Jackie Brown. It has everything I like about Tarantino movies and none of what I don't like. It's grounded and cool. Reservoir Dogs is such a passion project though I think it's perfect.
