>>213463526 (OP)Sure. Marketing budget reported as 125-200 million, for a total budget of 350-425 million. A studio gets up to 60% of the domestic box office, however, after the first 2 weeks this number falls. After 6 weeks that percentage can drop to as low as 40%. For the international box office, it varies by country, but they only get 20-40%.
Even if we are being as generous as possible and assume they got 60% of the domestic box office and 40% of the international box office, and that the marketing budget was only 125 million the movie was still a flop. That would give the studio a take home of only 287.6 million dollars against a budget of 350 million. So that’s already 62.4 million dollars in the red. However we know it’s more because we know the international box office varies between 20-40% by country and they didn’t get 40% of the total international box office, we know that after the first 2 weeks studios get less than 60% of the domestic box office with a decreasing share each week, and we know that the marketing budget could have been up to as much as 200 million dollars.
Being as generous as possible it still lost 62.4 million, but the reality is it lost far more, and this could easily have lost more than 100 million dollars.
