Karl fucked it up big time. Billy Mitchell is a public figure, therefore the standard for defamation is WAY higher. If Karl had just argued that his statements didn't constitute defamation Billy couldn't have done shit. Instead Karl went hyper spergmode and basically admitted that it was defamation, but that Billy's reputation was already so fucked that it didn't matter.

Most people don't understand that Billy is just playing a character. He's using the fame from playing video games to promote his other REAL businesses like his Hot Sauce business. That's where his real money comes from.

Billy doesn't actually CARE specifically about his gaming record. But he knows that as long as he holds onto the Guinness World Record for best Donkey Kong player, the autismo fans will keep seething.

So Billy Mitchell plays up the bad guy persona to keep the attention coming. The fans keeps Billy Mitchell popular and his name in the news. Which is great for his other businesses.

Listen here fanboy. You left a lot out. Jobst was a decent gaming journalist exposing WATA Games and how Grading video games is one big scam. But for some reason Jobst became OBSESSED with making Billy Mitchell videos. He wouldn't stop. Even some of his fanbase said he should stop and focus on other topics. But Jobst refused to listen and tripled down.

And Jobst didn't just say maybe or "might have". HE DIRECTLY stated Billy Mitchell was responsible for Apollo's death (That's why Jobst lost the case). Then when confronted about it, Jobst doubled down and refused to take down the video.

Then when he got sued by Billy Mitchell, he pretended the lawsuit was about world records. So Jobst started a gofundme and scammed around $500,000 from the gaming community in donations to hire a legal team. Then Karl kept making videos about how this was a slam dunk case he was going to win. Telling the world he was going to expose Billy.

Jobst then lost the lawsuit. People actually watched the court videos and looked over the legal documents to discovered the truth. Jobst still didn't completely apologize and only offered a half - hearted "I'm sorry you kid understood me" apology.

So now Jobst has to pay around $1.5 to $2 million dollars. Judge ordered Jobst to pay the legal fees of both lawyers, all the court fees, and money to Billy Mitchell for slander.

Now Jobst has to mortgage his house for a loan to pay for everything. He even admitted that the Gofundme money wasn't enough for his own lawyers the court cost way more than expected.

I even remember arguing with Jobst in the comments and telling him to stop making Billy Mitchell videos. I told him it would bring down his channel. He actually reaponded to me and told me I was wrong and argued with me. Jobst went from a cool gaming journalist to an obsessed Billy Mitchell hater.

If he had gone to court and said "this is what it knew, and this was my opinion on it", then it would have been on Billy to prove that it was done with actual malice, which is really fucking hard as a public figure.

Karl basically states as a fact Billy made him kill himself with this behaviour. But Apollo never said that, it was not a cited reason in his suicide note video, so while its reasonable to speculate it might have been a decisive factor, considering it was a very stressful thing aimed at someone already on the brink, its just not a fact. This allowed Billy to sue someone yet again with a defamation suit against Karl.

Different anon here. Apollo was not required to pay money. Karl Jobst was wrong about that too. Apollo was only required to take down the videos, admit his mistake, and sign an agreement with Billy that he would not do it again in the future. Billy wasn't trying to get money from Apollo.
