I am trying to get sober but this movie scared me out of going to a meeting? Are they all like this?

Just stop drinking, instead of drinking, don't drink

This. I'm nearly 3 years sober which is longer than I used to be able to go when I was dragging myself to meetings. Meetings just keep reminding you of alcohol. There is decent stuff there in terms of psychology, like you do have to just decide deep down that you don't want to drink anymore, but you have to do it yourself either way. That decision is what matters though. At least it has been for me. When the craving arrives at it always does, you know you already decided not to drink.

if you aren’t working a program you aren’t really in recovery

>I will stop drinking if I hang out with a bunch of alcoholics

Retarded, like druggy teens trying to stop getting high while hanging out with their "best friend" their drug dealer.

Dry drunk is a myth the AA cult made up. Drinking is bad for you. Not drinking is good for you. How you "not drink" is irrelevant because we don't have free will anyway. The body recovers from the effects of booze whether you want it to or not.

Haven't seen whatever that movie is but if you go to AA there's no mandatory sharing, you can sit and listen the entire time. That being said I would not recommend it as the program only exists to perpetuate itself. Maybe if you have absolutely no support system at home or if you've alienated all your friends and relatives it can be helpful. Sober for almost 3 years now.

Have you tried kratom or methylene blue? Those two alongside microdosing thc helped me quit alcohol. I've only been to AA once and it was a disaster.
