obvious and the music itself just sounds shit. I think that's what makes it jarring to me. Tonal shifts can happen in shows, plenty of comedies have serious or sad or romantic moments that work, it just seems that Koreans are sometimes bad at doing it with serious/dark material and then adding romance.

Yom Sang-seop’s Three Generations and Ko Un’s Ten Thousand Lives are the only ones that come to mind (haven’t read either so I can’t vouch for their quality). You could check out Eyes of Dawn, its portrayal of the events is somewhat surface-level and obviously dramafied but it’s still a great watch.
