I read the plot beforehand but it was still worth a watch
Storytelling and acting were great
Best character is the tweaker
The big bad is genuinely evil and the reveal is good
>>213482845 (OP)I thought the ending would be more satisfying but it's not bad
It's a good year for horror
We have this, Strange Harvest, Traumatika, Do Not Enter, and Shelby Oaks
Those and Hail Mary are the only movies I'm looking forward to
>>213482845 (OP)Got tickets for Saturday, I am pumped for more Creggerkino.
reminded me of A Quiet Place
the storytelling and the focus on the intimacy of family
also in the sense that I didn't have high expectations but it was probably the best movie I've seen this year
Don't think it can capture any of the Superman or FF audience but it buries those movie in terms of quality
>>213482845 (OP)Zoomers are filtered by it because it has no trauma dumping or social messaging in it like all the A24 slop. I think it's the best modern horror since Malignant..fucking hated Barbarian
>>213482845 (OP)>it was probably the best movie I've seen this yearcome on cregger, there's no need to lie
>>213482845 (OP) My only issue is the teacher not bringing up the missing name tags for the students as some kind of clue and there's no way a cancer ridden old lady could outrun 17 kids for that period of time, even if she was rejuvenated
>>213482845 (OP)it's genuinely horrifying movie
the boy's plight with his parents is tragic and terrifying
>>213483424I hadn't thought about it but it's not about anything
I guess if there's a theme it's one about the cruelty of captivity
Excellent storytelling. Acting was amazing too. Kids are usually shit actors but the main boy nailed it
>>213483450It's been a really dire year so the bar is low
>>213483450I honestly can't remember too many other movies
Superman was mid, FF was mid. I didn't see the new Jurassic Park.
Now that I think about it the movie is very similar to Bring Her Back but without offputting australians
Just saw it. One of the best movies of the year, for sure (this year doesn't have that much great stuff). Zach Cregger clearly sharpened his skills in the storytelling and suspense departament.
I recommend going blind as much as possible. I didn't read anything or saw any trailers. Just got curious because people were praising it and had a good time. 8/10 would see again.
>>213482845 (OP)Is the floating ar15 real?
>>213483499that bit was great
it's a shame the kids parents didn't come back. I guess they were under for too long
>>213483424So is that your tweet? Did that person also come to the same conclusion as you after you read reviews by zoomers? Hopefully you aren’t just regurgitating his tweet.
>inb4 twitter screenshot of random zoomer saying they don’t like it
>>213483572yeah. that bit was weird and it felt out of place with the rest of the movie
the kids weren't really "weapons" or rather, that wasn't their main purpose. I think the witch was draining them or something. The AR scene is in a dream brolin is having. I thought it would have more significance but looking back it was weird and didn't fit the rest of the movie but it's only a few seconds
>>213483424we already watched every part of weapons story
>Stephen King: old guy having dreams about the witch >Anne hathaway The Witches>Ruth Langmore playing school teacher and having no active role in the film, you know she drinks, has casual sex because she's single>kids turning against the villain in the last minutethere's no logical sequence
there's not
it happened this and therefore will happen this BUT..
it's just a constant flow (well paced tho) of previous plots mixed together
>>213483549bring her back was better
>>213483631I enjoyed it mostly for how well the story was told from the different perspectives, and honestly the suspense was done very well
the scene when the shows up to the faggots house to murder them was honestly pretty sudden and shocking
>>213483424>>213483561I can confirm that the zoomers are filtered, because there was a two teenagers sitting beside me and one of them was checking the phone a few times. Also, Sean Fennessey is a great guy and his podcast/interviews are pretty good.
>>213483681bhb had more shock value but I didn't like any of the characters nor did I care what happened to them
with weapons I was genuinely rooting for the kid, the girl and brolin so I enjoyed it more
>>213483706>from different perspectiveswas garner character necessary?
kid was the only survivor and no one thought thinking he could be a suspect
>>213483901>was garner character necessary?you just explained why the garner character was necessary
took all the adult attention off the kid and his home situation
>>213483262>We have this, Strange Harvest, Traumatika, Do Not Enter, and Shelby OaksI was looking forward to Until Dawn and The Home but they were both fucking shit
>>213483612it was a misdirect, Brolin plays a white construction worker guy who's drawing lines on a map, its meant to make you think hes going to hoot up a fool
>>213483706When she's pretending to be out of breath, was her car in their driveway? I cant remember now, she was both scary as fuck and hilarious
I thought the torrent was out, where is it?
>>213482845 (OP)the opening narration was cringe
non-chronological order could've been better
Archers dream with the giant assault rifle was strange
showing the longlegs witch made it less spooky
>>213484440I didn't give the opening narration a second thought until you mentioned it
what was bad about it?
Has Cregger dethroned Eggers + Aster?
Its up!... and its not looking good!
>>213484491annoying kid voice explaining the entire backstory took too long
>>213482845 (OP)longlegs was fool me once. fool me twice, i cant get fooled again
>>213483579>spoilerHe didn't break their thorn wand
>>213484517It’s witchslop.
>>213484743Tiktok user detected
>>213484945so release them is to break the thorn wand and then kill the witch? but I guess how long you spend under has an impact on your recovery cause Archer recovered immediately but the kids were still spazzing out after they killed the witch

>>213485206Didn't the final scene imply that the victims all suffered serious brain damage? I'm pretty sure the parents of that kid who were under the spell for the longest time turned into permanent vegetables while some of the kids only slowly gained back the ability to speak after another whole fucking year.
>>213483499It's so odd because in the script it's the obligation Valentines Day cards that little American kids have to do so in that context it would make perfect sense. I guess they couldn't shoot the movie in winter so they had to do a quick fix
>>213485318yeah it was implied
they wisely didn't waste time and energy hashing out all the details
I guess it did depend how long you were under though
>>213485162starting your movie with a black screen & whiny kid narration is shit
fuck off zoomer
>>213482845 (OP)It was okay and definitely not as good as Barbarian. I liked the idea but the execution and some of the writing did not sit with me.
There were more laughs than gasps in my theater.

>>213485774idk but it made a lot of the movie unintentionally hilarious. the entire sequence with benedict wong was just funny because of it
>>213485774It's the napalm girl picture
>>213483511Good movies don’t need to be about anything or have a metaphor. Zoomers would say Halloween sucks because it’s just a crazy killer with a kitchen knife
>>213482845 (OP)enjoyed it, 7/10 but the villain and her motivations were unsatisfying. I was expecting something a bit more supernatural than what we got

they were talking about parasites in one classroom flashback and also benedict wong was watching some cordycepts parasite tv show
I might have missed another reference but I think those two were pretty upfront about the message
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nastier movie witch. Gladys didn’t fuck around. Kino.

>>213485156Same same. It's all just an excuse not to have anything scary.
>>213486334don't see how that fits
people keep talking about those in reference to this movie but the only components are the school itself, and the AR that shows up in archer's dream and is never mentioned again

the giant AR with the misleading time stamp was dumb as fuck

So is this movie basically a big mystery until we find out the answer which is some BS made-up voodoo like in Longlegs?
I hated that about Longlegs
>>213486060How fucking old are you?

>>213486501Ive never seen Barbarian but its legit witch voodoo in this
>>213486501Longlegs ending might have been similar but it was cringe. Nick Cage slowly singing happy birthday at the end made me so pissed for some reason. This movie’s ending was both cathartic and funny

>>213485365>I guess they couldn't shoot the movie in winter so they had to do a quick fixJust have the movie set in a southern state like Florida or Georgia where it never snows
>>213486501longlegs rushed the explanation in the last 5 minutes for an underwhelming ending and had far too many coincidences and loose ends. The plotline of her having some sort of clairvoyant capabilities was dropped and never utilized again. The Monkey suffered from these same issues, Nepo Perkins needs to stop being allowed to direct
>>213486501It mogs Longlegs imo. The narrative tied things up quickly and neatly and didn't overstay its welcome like in that one
>>213486718>This movie’s ending was both cathartic and funnyI don’t think I’ve ever seen a witch so deserving of her spell backfiring lmao
Pedro Pascal would have ruined the feel of this movie, dodged a bullet for sure
Some are saying it’s another Longlegs aka falls apart in the second half

It was kinda dumb the requirements for complete mind control are lower than the requirements for making the mind controlled target someone. The “object someone possesses” being so broad their name tags on their cubbies count but then she needs a lock of someone’s hair to get them to go after them? I feel like those two should have been reversed.
Also as soon as she had her hair she should have just made her a slave instead and added her as a lackey.
>>213486889This was one of those writer's strike movies where they had to recast the whole movie so it doesn't shock me that they had to retool things on the fly.
Havent come here since Hereditary dropped and this board hated it. I'm surprised people liked this movie since it was so goofy, but it was an easy 9/10.
>>213487198>The “object someone possesses” being so broad their name tags on their cubbies count but then she needs a lock of someone’s hair to get them to go after them?It doesn’t have to be hair, is the point. She makes do with whatever. As long as it’s associated with them.
What's with the comedy to horror director pipeline? Are horrors just inherently funny? Are we not supposed to feel scared?
>>213487314Because it involves a setup and payoff and playing with audience expectations. Its why so many comedy actors can give good horror performances.
>>213487198>Also as soon as she had her hair she should have just made her a slave instead and added her as a lackey. He would have had to ring the bell for that. Realistically speaking she could have just mind controlled the teacher, but she’s a sadistic old woman.
>>213487298When did the witch get the mind controlled to Naruto target anyone without getting their hair first?
>>213487314The comedy in poltergeist is the best example
>>213487314Ari Aster is the epitome of showing this pipeline does not function well in reverse
>>213487367She used the pieces of paper the kids colored and then she rang the bell.
>>213487352That’s what I mean, mind control the teacher as soon as she had her hair. It seemed needlessly complicated with a lower chance of success to have the Asian guy go for her when she literally had her right there
>>213487352Her plan was undone by her own hubris. Why kidnap like 17 kids in one class? Why not just kidnap a few? She could have fed off transients or druggies or something. Thats really my only gripe, I wish we had a scene of her drinking their blood in the basement or something. I get that she was implied to be a parasite but all we got was half a second of her cutting their hair in the basement. Ah well, still a masterpiece for the ending alone.
>>213487314>>213487378Because when the villains are slightly funny they come across as unnerving, or unhinged, and truly dangerous.
I mostly liked it but felt like the setup of a class disappearing for some reason is more interesting than the reveal of it being a witch.
The witch part was pretty cool though, good portrayal of a modern witch. That lady was one evil bastard.
>>213487393>It seemed needlessly complicated with a lower chance of success to have the Asian guy go for her when she literally had her right thereI don’t think she cared. She was already risking a lot. She might have even wanted to put blame on the principal - but she also could have done that with the teacher, so…
Again, I think she’s just sadistic.
>>213487384That’s different from getting them to kill though. Every time someone mind controlled aimbot locks on a person and just sprints at them while always knowing where they are, it’s after the hair ceremony is done.
Gay Asian targets his boyfriend after she cuts the guys hair and does the wand snap
Gay Asian targets the teacher after she does the snapping wand with her hair
Littler kids target the witch after the boy takes one of her hairs from her wig and snaps a wand he makes
>>213487413>That lady was one evil bastard. The part with her in the principal’s home was great
>Trevor Moore was sacrificed for this…
Also surprised Cregger didn’t have a self-insert cameo like in Barbarian. Was he in the town hall meeting crowd?
>>213487430>>213487198She was leaving town so she probably didnt care at that point.
I think people are overlooking that the villain wasnt some particularly genius mastermind but a parasite who relied on abusing and terrorizing a kid to get by, she wasnt ever portrayed as a genius.
>>213487407>Her plan was undone by her own hubrisSo just like typical evil sorcerers, witches, etc
It’s almost like whatever demonic powers give them their magic want them to die in satisfying climactic fashion
“Nooooo- how could a child beat MEEE”
>>213487460he played the witch
makeup department has come a long way since Whitest Kids You Know
>>213487474>packed theater cheering and laughing as kids tore an old witch apartPretty fantastic movie experience.
>>213487448That would be the second step. Binding them to the stick allows her to either a) mind control them, or b) send the mind controlled after them.
>>213487081The principal's story actually shocked me with how gory it was, was not expecting crushed heads.
>>213487460He casted his own wife with Justin long for cuckery reasons
>>213487472She clearly risked a lot by kidnapping an entire class. I doubt she would have gone far once she left town. Or maybe there’s a community of witches she knows of. I’m not really sure.
Was she even related to Alex? Or did she just bewitch his parents? She says she’s the older sister of the mother, but then she’s said to be the great aunt of the mother.
We also don’t know what’s up with the plant. Or why she didn’t use her magic a lot sooner, since she’s seen with cancer at its late stages.
Did she sell her soul to the devil on her deathbed or something? For this power? Otherwise I don’t see why she’d ever let herself get old to begin with.
>>213487501Yeah it was great
Was the vvitch gonna pack up all the kids and bring them with her when she left or what? Surely she still needed them to stay alive right, she wouldn't leave or dispose of them.
>>213487554She's clearly meant to parallel the junkie to some degree, an abuser looking to prey on those arond them. I dont think the family relationship really needed to be explained or explored because all that mattered was she got in and was a manipulative monster. Showing this from the perspective of Alex helped since he didnt care where the fuck she was from, he just wanted her gone.
>>213482845 (OP)it looks retarded, mostly because of the way the kids are running. it just isn't scary to me. i don't really like to watch horror movies with kids because they're shit actors too. i already know it won't top the innocents so why subject myself to this?
>>213487601Oh right posts like this are why I stopped coming to this board, now I remember. Its pleb city.
>>213487600>She's clearly meant to parallel the junkie to some degreeThat’s a pretty good observation

>>213487601I chuckled when she waved to the junkie in the woods, lol. “Hello!”
>>213487601There's only one child actor that gets significant focus and he does a good job. Movie makes you feel for him.
>>213482845 (OP)I liked it, although the final act didn't feel complete. The clown/ aunt jumpscares were genuinely scary.
>>213487654Alex will hate any mention of witchcraft for the rest of his life. Every time he visits his parents in the insane asylum he will be reminded that witches are real.
>>213487655What do you think it was missing?
>>213486501Longlegs dropped the ball so hard. If it was just about a serial killer it would have been ten times scarier.
Its pretty funny that the cops covered up the story because they did such a dogshit job investigating.
Do you think anyone got the reward at the end? Did the teacher and the father claim it because they technically found the kids?
>>213487638Woah a bunch of mind controlled slaves break control and violently murder the one controlling them. Never seen that before. What a twist!
>tfw enjoyed this and Longlegs
Why must people pit them against one another
>>213487734Because Longlegs is meme demonslop trash.
>>213487733Feel free to name a movie that does it as hilariously as this one, you joyless loser.
>>213487684I don't know exactly, it just felt abrupt. Maybe we could've seen more of the witch's magic and how it's analogous to a parasite.
The way they did the witch was actually rather accurate. In history, sorcery was basically weaponized circumstance, or weaponized coincidence, but it also had to do with the poisoning of the mind, etc.
The ability to take someone out from the safety of your basement, anonymously, is a lot more terrifying than any sniper could ever hope to be.
>>213487743You might as well have called it reddit, your post is meaningless.
>>213487734No one did but if /tv/ murdered longlegs day 1, weapons isn't looking too crash hot
>>213487722Nah. The wizarding community covered everything up using magic.
>>213487771Thats fine, this board hates everything decent. Sinners is my favorite film of the year and /tv/ hates that movie.
>>213487198It's weird that she cuts the teacher's hair when she's stalking her in the car. Wouldn't it have been easier to kill her then, or get the possessed parents to drag her into the house then make her into another puppet?
>>213487786She used the mom to cut her hair. She was probably saving her for later.
Goddamn witches stealing and eating my kids REEEEE
>>213487768It's not meaningless. "Demonslop" refers to using demonic possession and/or poltergeists as a way to make cheap horror movies. Paranormal Activity started the modern trend. You can make these kinds of movies in a saturday afternoon.
>>213487763>but it also had to do with the poisoning of the mind“My husband didn’t MEAN to fall repeatedly into my best friends vagina! It was a witch! A WITCH I tell you!”

>>213483499>>213485365 lThis bothered me too. If anything just have him steal mundane objects from their desks while they were in the gym. The movie's rules make it out like whatever is fine so just a pencil or piece of paper would be enough.

I might be reading too much into the movie where kids rip off a witch’s face, but the title Weapons and the assault rifle in Brolin’s nightmare made me think it’s ultimately about school shootings and, more broadly, right-wing indoctrination and radicalization.
The repeated parasite imagery could represent the insertion of right-wing rhetoric into children’s minds. Traditionally, the right wing has always relied heavily on boomers. Over the last decade or so, we've seen that shift as right wing ideology has dug into Gen Z in order for their ideology to remain and spread (like a parasite).
Alex’s parents are zombiefied like absentee parents oblivious to their child’s transformation. Gladys also says that whatever she is doing to the parents (something with their souls?) isn’t enough for her, she needs kids.
Gladys also kills the movies only gay couple.
The opening narration also suggests something like, "This is a true story but you won't find it in the news because the cops and politicians in the town were so embarrassed they couldn't solve the mystery that they covered it up".
While the metaphor isn’t perfect it’s still a deliberate commentary, contrary to claims that the film isn’t “about” anything.

>hey, all the kids run in a straight line the moment they're outside. Maybe we should try lining the directions up and see if they were all going to the same areaI also wish we got more details on the witch in general, but I get that part of keeping it vague is to keep it mysterious rather than giving us answers we might not like
I would have liked to see a bit more of the actual invesigation from the cops and FBI, I really liked when Brolin was drawing lines on the map and trying to find where they were running to.
I was also distracted every time Ruth Langmore was on screen b/c all I could think about was impregnating her
I also feel like the witch is centuries old, after she said 'consumption' instead of TB... that term is like pre 1900s at best, maybe older. I seriously doubt she is actually related to Alexs parents, I think her last victims were just some relatives of theirs and controlled them to say "Hey this is Aunt Gladys".. but idk the dad say they had seen her 15 years ago (but what if it wasnt her)

>>213489130Honestly it makes enough sense to me. She was incredibly cocky and underestimated the kid. She was right to think she could control him through trauma and threatening his parents, but she made the mistake when threatening him of showing him she uses her magic.
Even then, she took realistic precautions, using his parents as guard dogs to protect the tree. She figured he'd be too scared to disobey, but still set it up so they'd kill him if he did. He just happened to loop them around the house and get to the tree

>>213489356The implication is that she's draining their life force somehow by having them under her spell. She probably has done this cycle countless times, and the people she's used in the past have died.
Honestly if she's meant to have lived for hundreds of years, it's smart of her to leave one kid alive as an errand boy to care for all the others she's draining energy from. If she played her cards right, she probably could have had the kid serving her forever, or at least until he's old enough to try to fight back, which she'd probably then kill him and start the cycle again
That also makes sense why she's targeting children as well. They have their whole lives ahead of them, which is more life energy she can drain from them. And as long as she has an errand boy feeding them, she probably could have done it for years
>>213489729>but idk the dad say they had seen her 15 years ago (but what if it wasnt her)The witch definitely wasn't actually related to them, because the stories don't line up. The dad said they hadn't seen her in 15 years, but then the witch when first beginning to manipulate the kid says she hasn't seen him since he was a little baby. But the kid clearly isn't 15 years old.
She probably had done the "I'm your long lost aunt" approach many times.
Personally I would have loved to have seen how long she can drain someone's life energy before they die from it. Seeing a victim of hers becoming a dried up husk would have been kino

But the kid clearly isn't 15 years old.really good point, i had forgotten that. yeah i thought the parents were going to turn into dust basically by the end. i also thought we'd see the witch get younger, but she really just got more energetic.
So what was the meaning of the 6 and triangle on her little bell... the same triangle in the credits, in the 'O' in weapons etc. Witch sigil or something?
>>213490124>i also thought we'd see the witch get younger, but she really just got more energetic. We did see her have significantly healthier looking hair towards the end. In fact when the kid first saw her in bed, she seemed almost entirely bald. Then when she controlled the parents, she had a few strands of hair when she wasn't wearing her wig, and then during the chase sequence she had an almost full head of hair.
I actually think that part was done well, it was subtle enough you could miss it, but if you were looking for it you could tell she was getting younger/healthier without too much makeup/effects
>julia garner will never molest you as a shota while drunk after school

>>213490190>In fact when the kid first saw her in bed, she seemed almost entirely bald. Then when she controlled the parents, she had a few strands of hair when she wasn't wearing her wig, and then during the chase sequence she had an almost full head of hair.damn anon i didn't explicitly notice that either. good eye. i did notice when she had dredds like snoop from the wire for a bit.
>>213490230Yeah the dreads was what made me notice her hair was changing lmao. But the chase scene of her having healthy hair is what really showed she was getting stronger.
I do wish we would have seen her acting a bit more smart during the chase. Like she's a witch, she knows how the spell works. She can't outrun them forever, because they never get tired. So it's either break the spell, or kill the kids. I was convinced it would go like this
>witch feels the spell happen and panics as she begins to run away>runs through several homes, trying to slow the kids down with barriers>then she runs back to the original house, desperate to get back upstairs and to the tree, either to try to break the spell, or cast a new one>kids chase her up the stairs, and as she's grabbing a branch to cut herself with, the children tackle her to the ground>the tree and the witch are getting torn to shreds as the witch is screaming in agony, desperately trying to cast a spell while she's getting killedI was sure this would happen, because surely she knows she can't possibly hope to outrun them forever.
how scary is it? I'm not too big into horror but I heard it was very mystery heavy which I am a big fan of
At first I thought the junkie broke into that house because the parents were his parents and he was like estranged (cause of the phone call trying to get money from someone to pay 'mom' back), but then I realized he just picked the house because theres like 10 newspapers in the driveway so he thought it was empty or they were on vacation.

From the trailer I was expecting something like a fucked up horror version of Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter, something lingering about loss and the unknown. It's very much not that, I still enjoyed it though. Definitely feels like the horror movie a sketch comedian would make.
I didn't read the leaked script but I think I remember someone posting a page where Garner looks into the "ministry of silly walks", think she Googles it or something? I assume this was some sort of organisation or coven of witches that Gladys was part of, the emblem on her collar are a pair of clown looking shoes. Did anything come of that in the script? Did Garner have an encounter with Gladys to have noticed her emblem in the script?
>>213486345Fucking kino. This movie would've gone from an 8/10 to a 10/10 if it was called this.
>>213486501Both the trailers and the first act of Weapons made it very clear witchcraft is at play. In Longlegs they just infodump you in the final five minutes with by the way there's these magic balls that we're not gonna explain that mind control people for some reason. In Weapons the mechanics of the witchcraft are better set up and explained, not to an autistic degree but enough to where you can infer the mechanics of what's happening.
