I was thinking it was one of those cases a studio shits out a very horrible movie on a $5 budget just to keep the rights to an IP, but surely, war of the worlds must be a public domain by now?
Genuinely what was the purpose of this flick?

From what I heard they made this during the COVID lockdown but didn't release it until now. Maybe they want to get the most buck out of what they already made?

Just saw it and indeed it was, movie sounds awful but I must admit the idea of government so obsessed with surveillance they risk alien invasion for the sake of more surveillance is actually a good idea, can we see that reused in a not shit movie.

It's not kino, it's not cinema, nor is it a flick. It's bijou.
Claques bijou.

Did the government even know that the aliens exist? Like who would put "alien invasion" on the list of potential fallout of a government project?

From the wiki
>"Dave. Dave sends him a link to classified information about a surveillance operation known as "Goliath". Reading these files, Will discovers that alien ships had previously arrived on Earth, and that the government knew they fed on data. Despite warnings that activating Goliath could alert the aliens, Director of Homeland Security Donald Briggs chose to activate it anyway."

So the government already know about the aliens, the alien did land on Earth before and it was known that they eat data.

I assume it was made during COVID to cash in on the "screenlife" movie trend after Unfriended, Searching, and Spree. Only they realized during post-production what a big piece of shit it was so they tried to release it by dropping a trailer a week before, only what they don't know is because of the speed the internet moves it only kept it in our attention spans. And as fate would have it there was a little scandal involving Aries Spears on VladTV clowning on Ice Cube, so this movie ended up being caught jn the crossfire and is now a huge laughing stock online.
