there was a very famous documentary about him. it goes deep into his painkiller and opiate addiction. he overdosed and was very close to death. think "the wrestler". he had a great peak in Japan but the drugs and everything wore him down. rocks gonna do depressing junkie fighter oscarbait, basically. mark kerr seems like a really nice guy in that documentary, though. Also "A24" doesn't "make" movies, this was written and directed by Benny Safdie, it's his film, A24 just gave him money and distributes the movie in the US. A24 is nit even the sole production company they share the credit with several others. Why do retards on here forget that movies that are not capeshit are made by directors and writers and not studio executives?

That's not "just give him money", the studio exerts control over the film since it's ultimately their intellectual property. To produce means to make, in case you were confused. When your employee follows your contract to manufacture your desired product, it's your creation, not theirs.

A24 is not even the sole producer, they don't own exclusive rights to the movie so it can't even be called their "intellectual property". A24 or NEON or whatever other company like that don't tell directors what movie to do and how to do it, they at most just pick up scripts that they think will fit under their "indie" umbrella, that's it, but the scripts they pick were already finished by the writer / director independently.
