Christianity is about glorifying yourself too. The whole "sinners need to be saved" schtick reeks of absolute condescension and classism.
The only "religion" (if you can call it that, more of a philosophy) that has been proven true repeatedly in our age of reason is Daoism:

We see it in action every day with the elderly people especially in asian countries who might not be rich but still lead long fulfilling lives, because they have surrendered/aligned themselves to society's natural order and have found strength in unity of their peers.
But yea no western establishment would touch it with a ten-foot pole because of its allusions to socialism/communism (which the religion of gnosticism that jesus preached also alludes to, but modern christianity has nothing to do with jesus' teachings but Paul/Saul's retcons instead).
