I don't think there's anything wrong with watching anime or capeshit, as long as you know it's juvenile.
I love Batman. I loved Batman as a kid. Enjoying Batman helps me connect to my younger self. I think it's good. It stops me from becoming a old crotchety bastard.
But I don't pretend Batman is mature entertainment. It can be creative, and even meaningful, but it's primarily for children.
The problem is that people drag the things they liked as kids into adulthood, and transform it to the point where it isn't even the thing they originally liked anymore.
With comic books, what should have been an Elseworld idea, that being grimdark, has taken over the mainstream understanding. Superheroes being kid-friendly is now fringe, and in a horrible twist of fate, kids have moved away from superheroes.
Adults need to become adults again. Not just playing adult.
You like Superman, or Naruto, or Spongebob? Great. That's fine.
But fucking hell, read a book without pictures every month. Watch a film about history. Listen to a radio show. Get educated and learn about the world.
There's more to human art than the things you liked as a kid, and the fact that people are trapping themselves in one period of their lives is tragic.
They'll never branch out and discover things they could have liked. It's just a fucking shame.
