Basically people before were living on borrowed money but it became apparent people weren't going to be able to pay back those bank loans in 2008 so the banks were in danger of going bankrupt.
China bailed out the US with 586 billion to 700 billion dollars mainly buying US treasury bonds which kept the USD solvent.
Government bailed out the bankers and the banks with taxpayer and Chinese money instead of leaving the bankers out to dry and imposed austerity on the masses. This led to everyone becoming poor as shit.
