It missed key details, the most prominent for me was the fact that the Baron is not as smart as he thinks he is.
He's cunning and ruthless, yes, but he's also got colossal blindspots because of his ego and it's not until after the assault that he found someone smart enough to spot them

To me the biggest fault was changing the story. Alia's interactions in the palace at the end, and Paul's effing BABY that he had with Chani, these moments are too important to leave out.
For the first movie I was enchanted by the production value (visuals, atmosphere, music when it didn't involve the screaming lament voices) which is what Dennis is best at.
But really disappointed when the second film came out

dune is a perfect globohomo movie because it was scared to make an actual adaptation so they completely stripped it from being. ironically this also transferred towards brutalism because they often did not go far enough. since they changed the characters, the story had nothing to do with book.

my pet peeve is following the trend where you bring out some hack to make up the language so they spend time talking in guttural noises. cringe. just have everyone speak fucking english.

Disastrously bad casting for the fremen. They basically cast any random brown/black people they came across, which not only looks retarded and unappealing but also isn't what they are supposed to be as well. The fremen are described as either arabs or tan white people in the books. Leto II even catches feelings for a pale fremen girl. Chani being a gross mulatta girl was a terrible decision. She should be a cute redhead. She needed to be someone people instantly like. Of course changing her to a girlboss who is skeptical of Paul was also a massive mistake

The first book just throws unexplained concepts and words at you and expects you to find out what they mean by yourself (there's actually a syllabus at the end but I didn't know until I got there). The other books are constantly reminding you of what a word means, and it kinda sucks

The Chani/Stilgar personality swap fucks the adaption even harder, because due to her being a strong woman who won't accept being second fiddle even in a fake relationship, it has the knock on of her not actually influencing Paul
In the book, Stilgar is the one man who can keep Paul in check, both out of mutual respect and his position. Paul threading the needle is possible in no small part to him, because he's the one that reminds him that he isn't the infallible messiah that everyone else thinks he is.
In the movie, the clear implication at the end is that Chani has failed at this task.

The design of the fremen tech is pretty great. The ornithopter being a dragonfly is a stroke of genius. Basically the DUNC movies are like the Star Wars prequels where the director is lazy and incompetent but has an eye for cool designs that keep peoples' attention on the screen.

It was empty and vapid, and the writers chose to ignore and change important elements of the story, specificall the character Chani. Her and Paul losing their FATHERS is a part of what bonds them, and that bond is a big part of how she takes becoming his concubine. The role of concubines is the story is drastically changed which severly warps Chani's interactions later in the film. This is done to a degree that it cannot be considered an adaptaion and is something that lifts names and settings to tell a different story. It is a pretty insult to those that love the books and the character of Chani.

The casting is awful. Little timtim and that goblin Zendaya were terrible choices. You also got sheboon Kynes. And to top it all off, the Pug and Walken combo. I also understand why new people were confused. The first movie explains fuck all. The second tries, but fails. The only two good things were the aesthetics of things like the stilsuits and ornithopter. The other good thing, which seemed to be out of place but I enjoyed it, was the Mongolian throat singing. Another thing, which isn't apart of the movie, the game Dune Awakening is great. If you love survival crafting gameslop, I highly suggest it.

the miniseries is still the best visual companion to the books, but the production is cheap and questionable on several aspects. Dune is best as a book. If you need to adapt it to another medium, the only one fitting is an audio play. A great deal of every book is internal monologes and historical accounts. This does not translate to film well at all so far.

Yes, it's a little all over the place. If there's a lot of dialogue between multiple people they have actors for each speaking part for clarity. If there's a lot of narration they stick with one. I just love the subtle voice effects of the Baron and Pardo Kynes in particular.

Like others said, production value looks really cheap. But it's still the closest to the books out of all the movies/shows. Also beautiful actresses. Chani, Irulan, Alia, and Feyd's whores are all very pleasing on the eyes. Get the uncut version for tits. You only get to see Chani's and Feyd's whores tits though. Might be a scene where Alia is naked, but I don't think they showed anything from what I remember.

Krige did a better job than Reeves, who did a much better job than Annis. Up until Ferguson, she was probably the best portrayal of the character.

I really hate how they downplayed the cruelty and brutal society of the Fremen, all of a sudden men and women are equal and the storyline where the Fremen had secret dealings with the Guild was cut.

With all the negatives that show like the dune mini series have . Cheap actors and cheap scripts. So on and so forth. Why don't do alot of rehearsals? I feel something like that would really strengthen the actors and pull these scenes off way better.

Terrible cast

The worst part in DUNC is the ending where Jamis and the Fremen draw their knives. It's never explained earlier that it's fremen culture that if you draw your knife it must draw blood before being re sheathed. All the fremen drawing their knives would have added more impact if that was explained earlier.

About the only thing I enjoy about Christopher Walken appearing in a Dune film was the fact it's a direct reference to a hip-hop music video of Fatboy Slim from the 90s. A single line in the lyrics subtly referencing the book and a short pun on Christopher "Walk"en himself, dancing throughout the music vid.

I don't think the story is particularly enjoyable to the majority of people. Visually the film is fine and there's nothing wrong with the acting. The story just isn't that enjoyable. There are a lot of books that aren't really worth adapting, even if they influenced a lot of other media.
