TNG is what introduced me to Trek and there is so much I adore about the series, especially its tone, aesthetics and Captain Picard, but as I get older I find it a bit obnoxious and overbearing with how moralfaggy it can be, and find myself preferring the more chill, relaxed and "human" style of TOS, where things aren't taken quite as seriously. Kirk is such a fucking chad not because he fights aliens all the time but because he is so effortlessly charismatic and likeable and can get ANYONE on his side by his sheer aura. He also seems more upset by the deaths of his subordinates unlike Picard who doesn't give a shit (he cares more about soulless robot toasters).

TNG is my favorite to watch at night because it feels like a upscale space adventure, but TOS is the most fun of all. Its a show about Kirk the hero and his sidekicks Bon. DS9 is best when you like the characters interacting in their day to day duties or Dukat.

Watched The Best of Both Worlds Part 2. What an anticlimax. Of course they couldn't really get rid of Picard but the story really just played like "Wait no no go back undo undo". Locutus hanging around in sickbay and talking to Worf, he just looked comical and silly. Is this the episode where the Borg lose their scariness? Prime Borg is just Q Who and The Best of Both Worlds Part 1 and the rest is Borgslop? Say it ain't so. They were my favourite villains.
I wish Cmdr. Shelby stayed on the cast, especially since Wesley is just about to leave.

BtS, there were actual talks of getting rid of picard/stewart this way between seasons, because iirc he wanted his pay hiked up way too much. That's one of the reasons why they kept building riker up for captaincy and introduced shelby. Stewart eventually backed down, and we got BoBW pt. ii as we know it. Honestly for the best, I'm not sure frakes would've been able to carry for 7 seasons, and we got so many good episodes. It's just kind of a shame that behind the camera stewart was kind of a snob.

How do I show Star Trek to my friends?
Isn't the classic move to start with TNG and the Q episodes from the first two seasons, then continue watching normally? Any other ideas?
I was thinking that maybe some older Trekkie who’s seen all the episodes dozens of times could list a good grab bag of episodes, with a good mix of the different characters and plot types, since "Let’s watch this 7 season show, but it only really gets good 3 seasons in" doesn’t exactly make a great first impression.
So, maybe if I approach them with a small selection of episodes, it’ll seem less overwhelming. And maybe there’s a specific character or plot type they’ll really get into, which could start them down the pipeline.

I think classic Trek is enjoying a resurgence because people are sick of streaming shows and want a return to episodic adventures. It now takes over 2 years to make an 8 hour season of television. That's ridiculous and there's a point where all the polish in the world can't save bad stories and bland characters. People want to dip in, watch their heroes save the day, and dip out.
