>>213524602>And now I'm off to create the new thread, which of course will have a Lower Decks theme.Ut oh, stinky!
>>213524896One of the weaker TOS S1 episodes imo
>>213524668You know that time means nothing! It was only a few days ago that the oldtrek geezers made a new /trek/ thread after one had already been created. Then their thread got deleted, then they made another one, then that got autosaged. So if I made a Lower Decks thread, that would be completely in line with established oldtrek geezer behavior. Besides, I said that just to goad a geezer into making a thread immediately. And now, they'll be waiting in anticipation for post 310, so they can make a new thread, day or night, just so I don't do it. They do whatever I want, and they think it was their decision all along. Isn't this fun?!
Kazons are misogynistic and therefore based
>>213524896Children centered episodes were always trash. No idea why they kept doing them?
>>213524912metv has a pretty based saturday lineup otherwise
>>213524971what a disturbing insight into your schizophrenic head, it really is a strange and sad world you live in
>>213524790That whole episode was Star Trek trying to make their own Han Solo but then never using him again. And early TNG was full of this shit. Introduce a character with the beginnings of a narrative arc and then scrap them forever.

What type of pantsu did she wear?
>>213525122all the writers have said season 1 and 2 season one espeically was a nightmare, no-one had a direction just
>go write a scriptwhich gene might just throw out after you've finished without even explaining what he didn't like about it
>>213525122Kirk was basically Han Solo but with a cooler ship and crew
>>213525020Star Trek used to have a family audience and that meant having episodes squarely aimed at children. The streaming era has an adult age rating so the shows donโt need to pander to children anymore.
>>213525152Cute white ones but expensive, her family is loaded
Sweaty, passionate sex with La'An
>>213525152Shimapan, with a teddy bear print on the back.
>>213525171kirk had a crew of 400, the falcon had chewey and han
>>213525183The only streaming i watch is reruns on plutotv
>>213525183well they don't really pander to anyone do they? lmao
>>213525208Correct, but Kirk kicked as much ass and had more explosions. Also both had shitty sons that only existed in bad movies.
>>213525161Yeah most old shows have an awkward self-exploration phase, but TNG is notable for having theirs last a good 50 episodes.
>>213525264TNG is awesome
>>213525264well gene was on his last legs, once berman took the reigns things improved, say what you want about them but berman and braga gave the show a direction and a focus
>>213524790>both Jonathan Frakes and William Campbell had initially auditioned for the role of Will RikerWho really mogged who?
>>213525264early tng is awesome and you should appreciate it for the things they don't do later. its not something you appreciate on a first watch though. early tng is very like tos was, especially the away missions. the lighting, music etc is similar and never comes back once riker gets that beard
>>213525235They certainly pander to reddit
>>213525382A lot of it is the music.
Firing Ron Jones was Berman's worst mistake ever.
>>213525152She wore Jadzias of course
>>213525398i dunno him. is that someone that did early tng, or tos too? the music is a huge part. it has a distinctive 80s feel at first, then later they never use the same tracks again. i chalk it up to all the other changes too like lighting, costumes, etc. "growing the beard", as its called
>>213525488Yes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPTl188pl3U
Berman fired him after S2 I believe, no fucking idea why
>>213525499that first part reminds me of the exorcist, it has to at least be inspired by it https://youtu.be/Hj83ugShbic
even though i dont know the guy directly i know that i like a lot of music they use for s1-2 but then never again.
>>213525598Also did the Q Who Borg stuff

all of his shit was much better than what came later
>>213525499He was fired towards the end of S4.
>>213525643im drunk but here is a non-trek one i like because this dude basil was the man https://youtu.be/c9haMGB-E5o
>>213525806Basil is the man. The Conan score is legendary.
>>213525750Yeah you're right, somehow I forgot his legendary Best of Both Worlds score for a second
>>213525750How does one get fired from producing music for tv shows? Asking for a friend
>>213526224rick berman had this weird hangup about the music being too "intrusive" and drowning out the actors' performances
>>213525839i like how his music has an industrial sound. i've been watching random stuff and hear the track and know it was him instantly. i'm pretty good about a lot of music like that but i never bothered looking into WHY tng's music changed. i just knew that it does when they refresh the show
>>213526314Weird. Seems like the obvious solution would be to turn the volume down in editing, not fire the skilled guy who atmospheres up the show. Hollywood seems like a strange place
>>213526387Boomers don't get lower decks is the best trek since ds9
>>213526224The truth is that Berman favored Dennis McCarthy who was his friend and was working as an arranger under Jones, so he made some bullshit excuse and we got cursed with McCarthy's bland elevator music for the rest of Berman Trek.
As much as I like DS9, NONE of the romances in the show work.
>>213526563Garak and Bashir
>>213526563Nonsense. If you've been married before you know that having a bitch wife like Keiko is incredibly realistic in its portrayal.
>>213526475I thought Jay Chattaway's music for the rest of TNG was blander honestly
>>213526563Quark and his Klingon wife.
>>213526563Kira and O'Brien
>>213526635Well okay you got me there.
>>213525032Aw, you know I love your bitterness! It only motivates me more to be your friend! I can't stand to see my Trek buddy suffer like this! Well, don't worry your pointed little head... soon, I'll start posting the stirring conclusion to my Lower Decks watchthrough! Are you as excited as I am???
>>213526387There's such a thing as being "artistically loud". Think of The Doors, who had a really heavy sound despite not playing loud/fast/whatever.
Did they use Spock's theme at all when he appears in TNG?
speaking of sound tracks has anyone heard the most frustrating thing ever made?

>>213525398His music was corny and dated
>>213526978They used it when his Dad showed up.
That ep of SNW was pretty good
>>213527084Why is it always a woman?
>>213527084when I was a kid I went to a trek exhibition it was largely a promo for ds9 season 4, but they had some cool stuff like sorans gun and a very early version of touch screens with LCARS, no actors or anything like that
>>213527202>>213527084She shouldn't feel bad. John de Lancie being an asshole is well-documented.
>>213527084yep, even back in 2000 there were sluts just like other cosplay events. it was just rarer. that was also before anyone from the shows showed up to most of these too. i'd love to go to a modern where the actors are going to be before they get to fuckin old. i'm too old, so they are ancient now
>>213526636WMAF never fails
>>213524896Funny, I watched MeTV forbthe first time this morning and saw Woody the Woodpecker. It was kinda funny and taught kids not to trust (bankers)
>>213526730>>213526897Uh oh, looks like somebody got in trouble! Maybe trolling for 24 hours straight wasn't a good idea after all.
Good fucking riddance.
>>213527257I did a quick search on john de mancie stories and yea can't find anyone talking about positive interactions with him, also found this one where apparently after signed something, as in at a convention where people are paying money for him to sign things, he would use a ball point pen then smear the signature with his thumb before handing it back, thats a colossal dick move
>>213526387I can fix her. I can save her from her future
>>213526563kira and odo are pretty good
>>213526606Unironically this
The O'Brien/Keiko relationship is legitimately very realistic, but in a depressing, sad way. My ex was almost exactly like her (despite being much hotter as a big booty latina). The entire time I sincerely wished O'Brien would either leave her or at least cheat on her to be with a woman that wasn't a nightmare.
>>213527480Watch Jenny Nicholson's Brony movie documentary. The whole thing was a grift by John de Lancie to get money out of a fandom he didn't even like.
>>2135273107am every day they do 'toon in with me' and it has the dude with the stupid fish and they air old great cartoons but its kinda themed. its great. on saturday they do 3hrs of old cartoons from 7a-10. you'll definitely see woody on there. they also have a 'metv toons' network now, ala what boomerang started as. i'm not a a fan of toony, but the themes and eps they air plus what they mention of the history is great

TNG is what introduced me to Trek and there is so much I adore about the series, especially its tone, aesthetics and Captain Picard, but as I get older I find it a bit obnoxious and overbearing with how moralfaggy it can be, and find myself preferring the more chill, relaxed and "human" style of TOS, where things aren't taken quite as seriously. Kirk is such a fucking chad not because he fights aliens all the time but because he is so effortlessly charismatic and likeable and can get ANYONE on his side by his sheer aura. He also seems more upset by the deaths of his subordinates unlike Picard who doesn't give a shit (he cares more about soulless robot toasters).
>>213527554>jonh de lancie grifted bronysI've changed my mind he sounds based
>>213527578Neat, I thought it was mostly old cowboy shit that I would find boring, but I did watch one episode of something maybe called The Tales of Wells Fargo, only remembered the name because of the bank holy shit is the show a precursor to the bank!?! don't answer that question, and it was fascinating to me how they crossed the canyon. It was something I have never considered
>>213527084If I had a time machine I'd go to one of those cons in the 70s. That was the wild west of fandom, and there were no troons.
>>213527783Wells Fargo has been around for well over a hundred years. If I remember correctly they started as a secure stagecoach company of some kind in the Wild West era. Kinda neat
>>213527480de lancie is based, worshipping actors is stupid
>>213528010Not just that but imagine having weird old cat ladies stalking you and sending you their erotic fanfiction. While that last part sounds sort of ok, it probably gets pretty tiresome pretty quick
TNG is my favorite to watch at night because it feels like a upscale space adventure, but TOS is the most fun of all. Its a show about Kirk the hero and his sidekicks Bon. DS9 is best when you like the characters interacting in their day to day duties or Dukat.
De Lancie was racist. That's why he did so many Voyager episodes but never came back to DS9.
>>213528297Bones and Spock*
Im high
>>213528316Q does not work on DS9. There's no one there who would entertain his bullshit except maybe Bashir.
Guys, itโs me, John De Lancie. Itโs true, I hate all of you dumb faggots. oldtrek geezers, nutrek faggots, every one of you. kys and take care!
I'll be honest, I don't really care about John de Lancie. He was pretty good on the show but a lot of actors were pretty good in a lot of shows.
>>213527541>>213526636It's only natural that Kira would end up with Chief Cardie Killer, if only to trigger Dukat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgD3g_e5SO4
>>213528494he didn't seem triggered desu
>>213526563Dukat and Kiras mom
>>213528494Women do not care if a man is a psycho genocidal warlord, if he is charismatic and cool
I gotta admit, that one scene took me right out of the DS9 episode "Waltz"
>Mark Alaimo turns and looks into the camera, removing his Cardassian make-up and says
>"Gul Dukat is evil. He's a villain. He's a bad man. He committed genocide. Do not cheer for him. He is evil. He is insane. He is bad."
I'm starting to think they're changing courses with his character here...
>>213524790they should've brought him back for that episode where riker makes wesley a chad, they look very similar
>>213528862Alaimo fucking loved Dukat though, and he was strongly opposed to the writers changing direction with him. Don't blame him for that shit.
>>213528961During the scene, you can see a gun being held to his head in the background if you look hard enough.
>>213525416She wasn't allowed to wear big girl pantsu though!
>>213528862I know you're joking but that's pretty much literally what Sisko says to the camera at the very end. It's so embarrassing
>>213528346Not to mention the Great Wormholio aliens would not allow it.
John Wesley Harding
Was a friend to the poor
He trav'led with a gun in ev'ry hand
All along this countryside
He opened a many a door
But he was never known
To hurt a honest man.
It was down in Chaynee County
A time they talk about
With his lady by his side
He took a stand
And soon the situation there
Was all but straightened out
For he was always known
To lend a helping hand.
All across the telegraph
His name it did resound
But no charge held against him
Could they prove
And there was no man around
Who could track or lay him down
He was never known
To make a foolish move
No H&I trek tonight, gonna get fucking wasted and eat pizza at a bar instead

Iโll go dig up his genealogy so we can get reparations
>>213529844Bushwhackers were basically outlaws that would ambush and murder people to rob them. It was a stole of robber and was about as black a reputation as a man could have in the old west. It was mainly guys who specialized in guerrilla fighting from the civil war.
I was wrong though, I was actually thinking of someone else, not John Wesley Hardin
I was thinking of someone else.

Like he thought they were too intelligent and manipulative and good at winning in business and uneducated people were getting the short end but he became exactly what he saw in them and he was only capable of doing it because he is one of them Iโd imagine itโs a mind bender. His fear of what they were capable of got surpassed but he was already on the super meth or whatever and then they started looking for red enchanted items or whatever the fuck damn retards they were all on meth haha the entire military has to crash out eventually all the help it gave them wouldโve been double taxed with that withdrawal hangover and that meth probably really wound up getting their boys massacred on dumb nonsense when it wore off. >>213533126>There's rumors they might actually renew their contract for a shortened durationI don't buy it. Even if you give them three years, that would be enough time to shit out one more season of Academy or the Risa sitcom.
Not to mention that Skydance Television (Foundation) was acquired in the merger, so Ellison has no need for Secret Hideout anymore.
>>213533126>>213533164there is no way Ellison will allow this shit to continue, its an embarrassment, he's not even going to throw it a bone, its done, axed, thank the prophets.
>>213530265Writers in 2025 are incapable of writing political thrillers that don't suck. Also why is there this effort of grounding Trek? Nobody wanted to section 31 because the appeal of Trek isn't le epic spy thriller, nobody wanted to see Discovery because the appeal isn't an action show focusing on 1 savior MC character and nobody will want to see this because muh Drumpf but it's the Federation sounds like the worst idea ever. How do they still not get it? It's insane.

>>213533501For me it's the actual cinematography and how it's shot. It just looks like the JewJew movies. I get that it can't look like TNG/DS9/VOY cause it's not the 90s anymore but the TNG movies managed to have lighting that looked cinematic but still felt like Star Trek.

>>213533391funny to think about, there is another sci-fi show with an mc who is a literal angel who is the savior of everyone, its called battlestar galactica. Did Starbuck ever come across as a mary sue? no she was flawed and constantly fucked up, however she was a badass who could be counted on to fuck shit up when needed. Was Adama a gary stu who always did the right thing? no he fucked up a lot too but when the chips were down he would pull himself back up by his bootstraps and get shit done because thats what MOtherfucking Adama does. Did either of these characters hog the spotlight and steal scenes from others? No never everyone got their dues everyone got their arc and guess what its a great fucking story. Nu-trek tries to be edgy and grim and they can't even get close to BSG not even by a fucking split hair.

Watched The Best of Both Worlds Part 2. What an anticlimax. Of course they couldn't really get rid of Picard but the story really just played like "Wait no no go back undo undo". Locutus hanging around in sickbay and talking to Worf, he just looked comical and silly. Is this the episode where the Borg lose their scariness? Prime Borg is just Q Who and The Best of Both Worlds Part 1 and the rest is Borgslop? Say it ain't so. They were my favourite villains.
I wish Cmdr. Shelby stayed on the cast, especially since Wesley is just about to leave.
>>213531273How did you do on your assignment?
>>213535170TNG finales have a reputation for writing a check that the following premiere can't cash. In other words, the setup is always better than the payoff.
However DS9 does a better job of showing the ripple effects of decisions the TNG cast makes. Everything isn't always tied up in a neat little bow. A lot of people die. People with families of their own.
>>213535170the borg will return in tng, but you are pretty much spot on in your observation that they become neutered in a way from here on out. However say what you will about First Contact the 2nd tng movie, but they made Borg scary again.

>>213535170BtS, there were actual talks of getting rid of picard/stewart this way between seasons, because iirc he wanted his pay hiked up way too much. That's one of the reasons why they kept building riker up for captaincy and introduced shelby. Stewart eventually backed down, and we got BoBW pt. ii as we know it. Honestly for the best, I'm not sure frakes would've been able to carry for 7 seasons, and we got so many good episodes. It's just kind of a shame that behind the camera stewart was kind of a snob.
>>213536726I think so but not under her old trip.
>>213536597I heard even in season one Paramount execs were threatening to fire Stewart because Frakes was more marketable.
I have no doubt there was a timeline where Stewart left after season three and they managed to squeak out 100 syndication friendly episodes before pulling the plug.

How do I show Star Trek to my friends?
Isn't the classic move to start with TNG and the Q episodes from the first two seasons, then continue watching normally? Any other ideas?
I was thinking that maybe some older Trekkie whoโs seen all the episodes dozens of times could list a good grab bag of episodes, with a good mix of the different characters and plot types, since "Letโs watch this 7 season show, but it only really gets good 3 seasons in" doesnโt exactly make a great first impression.
So, maybe if I approach them with a small selection of episodes, itโll seem less overwhelming. And maybe thereโs a specific character or plot type theyโll really get into, which could start them down the pipeline.
>>213537410Do you realize how you sound?
>>213537410Jump around and show them good episodes, eventually show them a mediocre episodes and bad episodes. Remember that's how the show is intended to be seen
>>213537410if you muststart with tng, and its not the worst way to go, you always start with encounter at farpoint, no toehr way to do it, the you say season one was a shaky start but you have to have a few general episodes before you start getting stuck into long running story eps for instance next is the naked now jut go for it, then maybe justice so they can really start to build a proper hatred for wesley, the battle, Hide and Q and of course 1011011 w/e its called, heart of glory starts worfs arc and I suppose heart of evil to explain tasha being gone. Obviously end with the neutral zone,so thats season one.
>>213537410TNG is weak, start with TOS.
>>213537732I'm not fond of the Netflix approach of curating 10 plot heavy episodes to keep viewers' attention.
I prefer the basic cable model of watching one or two episodes a night before bed and letting the characters and setting grow on you.

Finally finished ENT
My journey is come to a close.
>>213537794thats why I suggested a bunch of just normal non story heavy episodes for season one
>>213537794>dying fanbaselol no quite the opposite real trek is more popular then it has been for years
>>213537990I think classic Trek is enjoying a resurgence because people are sick of streaming shows and want a return to episodic adventures. It now takes over 2 years to make an 8 hour season of television. That's ridiculous and there's a point where all the polish in the world can't save bad stories and bland characters. People want to dip in, watch their heroes save the day, and dip out.
>>213538076>I think classic Trek is enjoying a resurgenceProof?
>>213538170>Pluto TV>MeTV>Paramount+>Netflix outside the U.S.>New DVD collectors setsStar Trek is doing well in these formats. If Paramount were smart they'd find a way to market the classic era to Zoomers instead of whatever Starfleet Academy and the Risa Show are.
