Twin Peaks thread
Is The Return actually worth watching?
I've read a lot about how and why it is so controversial and divisive and honestly it sounds like something I would not enjoy. The thing I love the most about classic Twin Peaks is the cozy warm vibe of the town and its soap opera elements, and I read that "season 3" basically abandons all of this and intentionally goes out of its way to be as dark, bleak and miserable as possible, and avoids any and all fan service and doesn't make any effort to be a true continuation of the original series, and is more like something like Inland Empire (which I hated). I love classic Coop, the warm tone and aesthetics, the cozy vibes and music, the basic humanity of the characters, the lightheartedness, the eccentric and random storylines, etc. I don't just want 100% dark intense bleak and nihilistic surrealness, which The Return seems to be.
Reddit absolutely adores The Return but every single thing I've read about it sounds awful and not what I'd enjoy. So I'm basically getting a "second opinion" here because I remember that back in 2017, when I first came to 4chan, it was talked about regularly on here, though I never watched Twin Peaks until this year.
What do you guys think?
I am honestly perfectly okay with leaving Twin Peaks with the legendary and iconic season 2 ending, despite it being very tempting to see what happens to Coop after (possibly my favourite non-Death Note character of all time), but from what I've read about "Dougie" it's not good. So..... maybe it's best to just leave it there and head-canon my own ending, I dunno. I really don't want to "ruin" my image of Twin Peaks with an awful soulless 2010s reboot.
