Napoleon 2023
Was Napoleon unironically a genius?
>total nobody at 25, no royal connections, little wealth. (Italy was a backwater shithole similar to Louisiana)
>became the most promising Politician just 10 years later with nothing but his charisma
>created the most gigantic mass movement in human history from scratch. (Democratic Bonapartism)
>created an entire ideology from scratch. (Democratic Bonapartism)
>got rid of hunger and unemployment
>gave a defeated and demoralised people their faith and confidence back
>told the French they're the best people in the world in a time when they were considered a joke
>literally risked his own life in French Revolutionary Wars for his nation
>whenever he spoke the crowd became fucking ecstatic, almost like under a spell
>conquered all of Europe and almost Russia
>conquered more territory than Caesar or Alexander in a ridiculously short time
>withstood the entire planet for 12 years
>still lost due to betrayal by Murat and Grouchy
>went down fighting till the last second, didn't even consider surrendering.
>Was charismatic enough to avoid execution unlike Mussolini.

Seriously, was he even a human? There must have been demonic possession involved or aliens or some shit because there is no way that 1 person can achieve so fucking much in a single lifetime and have such a titanic willpower

he was very much a man who lived in the shadow of robespierre. if robespierre had never fallen, or never existed, he would have been truly great and have carried out the necessary reforms that would have saved the revolution. as it stands, murat (a total imbecille) progressed nearly as far as him and was the preferred replacement of fouche and talleyrand with whom he effectively formed a triumvirate.

People at the time literally and truly believed that he was the actual Antichrist because no one could explain coming from nothing and winning that much. Even rational Enlightenment guys saw him as a classical demigod like Caesar or Alexander that stepped out of history to wreak havok on the world.

Nietzsche, Genealogy of Morals:
>"Judæa proved yet once more victorious over the classical ideal in the French Revolution, and in a sense which was even more crucial and even more profound: the last political aristocracy that existed in Europe, that of the French seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, broke into pieces beneath the instincts of a resentful populace—never had the world heard a greater jubilation, a more uproarious enthusiasm: indeed, there took place in the midst of it the most monstrous and unexpected phenomenon; the ancient ideal itself swept before the eyes and conscience of humanity with all its life and with unheard-of splendour, and in opposition to resentment's lying war-cry of the prerogative of the most, in opposition to the will to lowliness, abasement, and equalisation, the will to a retrogression and twilight of humanity, there rang out once again, stronger, simpler, more penetrating than ever, the terrible and enchanting counter-warcry of the prerogative of the few! Like a final signpost to other ways, there appeared Napoleon, the most unique and violent anachronism that ever existed, and in him the incarnate problem of the aristocratic ideal in itself—consider well what a problem it is:—Napoleon, that synthesis of Monster and Superman."

In the middle of the most democratic mass anti-aristocratic slave revolt in history Napoleon, a hardcore Jacobin in his youth, proved the natural inequality of human beings. They will never be a good kino made about this man, just like a good one about Caesar or Alexander or Hitler.

Believing that the highest calling for a man is to be a good husband and father is slave mentality. What's the point of having a family when you have no power over anything? Your family is owned by the state.

He had a lot of connections inside political circles. Him being named at the head of the Army of Italy was seen as blatant nepotism by other commanders like Masséna.

>still lost due to betrayal by Murat and Grouchy

Murat did little for Napoleon's defeat and Grouchy never betrayed. He fucked up one time but was a very capable commander, undefeated on the battlefield.
Also Waterloo was just a last stand, the real defeat was the battle of Leipzig and in extension, the campaign of Russia. But in overall, Napoleon simply lost because other nations figured out they should copy french military doctrine.
Also speaking of traitor but not mentionning Marmont, Bernadotte or Talleyrand...

You won't learn history by watching movies, anon. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Literally yes. Pretty sure he was a whizz at mathematics as well, which helped with calculating cannon trajectories. Shame Ridley Scott is an idiot.

Napeleon wasn’t that special, historical circumstances just happened to set up a French campaign. If it wasn’t Napoleon it would’ve been someone else
