For what its worth, its better than Weeks. That peaked within its first 15 minutes and never hit those same highs. Years' first 5 minutes are nowhere near as good as Weeks' intro, but the first half is much better in comparison. They just drop the ball with the second half, like the military subplot not really going anywhere, even though Ralph Fiennes does a good job in his scenes.

This is just me making excuses for the movie somewhat, but I just read that as Spike going through his teenage angst phase, and doing it in the world of 28 Years world could endanger a lot of people with how their tiny village is reliant on people getting along. ATJ's character is generally well meaning, but he is definitely is a bit in over his head with a cancer-ridden wife and a son that's starting to learn how to rebel.

I saw an aged-out director, who has not kept up with the times and techniques, grasping at straws and failing miserably to deliver a modern, gripping action thriller.
The quality is consistently bad but it's more obvious when you're aware that it's 2/3rds done and this is all we're getting.

Obviously the first half was pure kino and the whole film should have been the dad and kid surviving in the wilderness, but the mum stuff wasn't that bad. The Swedish soldier guy subplot was dumb, but Ralph was cool. Obviously Jimmy Saville Teletubby Power Rangers is the stupidest fucking thing ever.
