1960s science fiction novels make up the bulk of my reading, and I find it fascinating that, despite all the wild futuristic concepts they imagined, they rarely conceived of practical computer technology beyond the magnetic tape spool, 1:1 realtime audio recordings, and punchcards/paper printouts. Keyboard input and digital screen output were beyond most of them.
Also there was a practically universal tacit cultural acceptance of the concept of "highball hour" where the characters, whether scientist, spaceman, explorer or conqueror, would pause whatever fantastical futuristic task they were engaged into break for whiskey and smokes.
