This is a “brand new” trilogy so of course they are going to give Peter a new set of friends (Harry and Gwen) which lays the groundwork for future villains. We probably won’t see much of Peters old freinds (Ned and MJ) anymore. According to people insiders, MJ is barely in BND and they might kill her off since Zendaya is expensive and she may not want to waste time coming back to appear in the film for less than 10 minutes, she’s busy.
