I never understood why they IRL chose to launch this attack at night when it was virtually impossible to effectively coordinate with other regiments and having them march down a narrow strip of sand where Confederate gunners had pre-sighted the entire area instead of loading them onto ships and landing them under the cover of naval gunfire right at the fort's entrance.
