i can't get past yorgos' disdain for his characters. it bothers me. his movies are intentionally awkward and stilted which is a neat choice but as such they're not compelling either.
his characters are all intentionally one-note to serve the overall metaphor or allegory and this could work to his benefit if he wasn't trying to make movies like killing of a sacred deer. that movie would fucking rock if the characters reacted realistically to the darkly comical and absurd situation the plot hinges on. but no, they're all emotionless because funny, like when colin farrell says that they can just make new children. if his character was the only detached freak in the movie, that could work, but since they're all like that, it feels hollow.
alternatively if his films honed in even more on the awkward tone and then actually said something of substance instead of being meandering, i could get behind that as well. his films are all tonal pieces but they're neither compelling nor interesting.
