I gotta say, this isn't how I imagined an experienced Superman to act. Throughout the movie he keeps crying over mean tweets and his dog that he has no control over. This is the least inspirational superhero in any movie.

The director projects himself on to Superman. This is why he seems so pathetic and vain in the movie. He carries Gunn's characteristics. Gunn is not a mentally stable guy.
