Brunt would have made a good Nagus
That is all.
No more Abrams/Kurtzman looks to be the consensus everywhere. But you also need a compelling new hook for what comes after. Another TOS rehash again? Post-Picard? Doing what there exactly? Personally i'd do the century between first contact and the romulan war. Timeskip where appropriate obviously.
>>213560427I dunno about that since he's usually outplayed by the likes of Rom and Quark
maybe they just make a new thing and not do any more star trek
like it seems to have been well over a decade since anyone liked any of it
>>213560433Post-VOY.
If you really think the Milky Way is fully explored, do an extra-galactic show. New technology allows the Federation to explore new galaxies. Boom, infinite new exploration kino real estate.
They could also do a post-DS9 fallout show about how the Dominion crumbles or something, maybe a changeling civil war, and start exploring all of that massive territory that was gated behind Dominion space.
There's a lot you can do. Saying "where do you even go from here" is for people without a creative mindset. You can go wherever you want, brotherman.
>>213560433Another TOS rehash seems inevitable. TOS is an immortal piece of pop culture like Smurfs or Scooby Doo or TMNT. Studios will keep rebooting it for new generations until the end of time. Even when they lose sight of what made the show popular to begin with.
>>213560573>Even when they lose sight of what made the show popular to begin with. That already happened like 20 years ago
>>213560496Final collapse of the borg collective, federation helps to resettle the delta quadrant well finally establishing presence and colonies
>>213560496Id watch that but only if they didnt change what starfleet stands for
>>213560433I think the series needs a classic show again.
It is in too much hot water to go experimental.
Another 90s - early 2000's Star Trek Series. Focusing on nailing the old tone again, unapologetically.
No dark gritty cinema sets like in SNW.
Just the Enterprise, Post-VOY, exploring. Probably a new Galaxy like this anon said;
>>213560496
>>213560651You don't even need to make it a new technology to reach other galaxies thing -- could say Starfleet finds some kind of wormhole or passage to another galaxy instead
Make a new Star Trek that can stand on it's own and doesn't fucking taint any of the existing stuff by being associated or based off of it and fucking ruining it with terrible ideas and terrible execution. Then I'll trust you to make a "post-DS9" or "post-VOY" or prequel show.
>>213560710they should do it true detective style and just have one season where we're following a klingon crew, then next season it's completely new characters and maybe a romulan crew, then next season a starfleet crew again
>>213560789Not enough time to give a shit about each crew, considering a season of television nowadays is 1/2 or 1/3 of what it used to be. Also take into account the fact that we're in a severe talent drought, so each season is going to be serialized around a main plot nobody will care about. To put a microscope on that 8-12 episode series, only 3-5 episodes will actually be plot-driven, and the rest will not even be episodic, simply time-wasting filler where nothing happens, before lurching right back into whatever universe ending scenario was established in the opening episode.
>>213561427Iโm still pissed at how Severance made us wait three years for a season that was 65% filler and dead end plot threads.
>>213561609I don't watch streaming shows at all.
>>213561609Everybody wants to be LOST, without realizing that LOST was crap in the end
>make it up as you go along>introduce mystery boxes with nothing in them>subvert the audience's expectations>make the subversions as stupid as possible
New Star Trek with an alien captain of the Enterprise. How about it?
>3 threads up
embarrassing
>>213561996The white male captain x alien female first officer is too kino to pass up
>>213562282I mean Enterprise had that and it pretty much sucked. No one on that show had any chemistry with each other.
>>213562266Right we need to make a separate TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT thread!
>>213562404no we have a star trek thread right here, you can go ahead and make some nu-trash shit thread if you'd like
>>213558768 (OP)An allegory for AI and our future.
>>213562375It did give us the only actually good Mirrorverse ep since Mirror, Mirror. And I wanted to fuck Jolene Blalock like you wouldn't believe, so there's that.
>>213561743LOST marketed itself as sci-fi for the cool kids. Unlike that dorky Star Trek, you can discuss us at the water cooler. Well, 20 years later LOST is pretty much forgotten, while people still discuss TNG and DS9.
>>213562781Enterprise made me discover I don't like mirror episodes with no primes involved. It kinda then just blatantly feels like watching a waste of time fanfiction and I really don't care.
>>213562552The t in /tv/ stands for trek
>>213563048I know it's fun for the actors to change things up, but I consistently skip the DS9 ones, Nana Visitor in leather with a whip or no Nana Visitor in leather with a whip. Whereas the Enterprise one, it's like, OK, we'll go with this, and because they weren't using primes there was actual stakes and indeed, ultimately, actual doom. Very memorable episode, probably in my top 10 across all Trek, well maybe more like top 20 but in any case, very good.
>>213563048Crazy opinion dog. The mirror universe enterprise episode is kino and one of the best of the series. I actually enjoy the fact thereโs no primes in it. No shoehorning just is. The DS9 mirror universe episodes suck.
Are we doomed to repeat history?

this man really screamed Jeffrey COOMBS at the top of his lungs
>>213563462I wonโt stand for Enterprise slander. Thereโs some kino episodes of Enterprise. Carbon Creek, Twilight, a night in sickbay, in a mirror darkly. The show is not better than TOS, TNG or DS9, but itโs about on par with VOY and I would make the argument that itโs better.
>>213563606Word, like it's absolutely standard for them to take two entire seasons to get good, TNG and DS9 both did it, the only real reason Enterprise isn't rated with them is that there's only 4 seasons so there's less of it being good. Plus the theme music is dogshit, but I may as well say the sky is blue.
>>213563669People are for sure going to disagree with us, but yeah everything you said completely. I fully believe seasons 5-7 of Enterprise with the Romulan War and the founding of the Federation wouldโve been gold.
>>213561996lead actors would never sit in the makeup chair
>>213558874>can actually see when a woman becomes aroused>it never happens
>>213563606You named four episodes and two of them suck ass.
VOY has more good episodes than that in a single season
>Scorpion>Year of Hell>Mortal Coil>Living Witness>Nemesis>The Omega Directive>Message in a Bottle>Hope and Fear
>>213563440Itโs frying me what awful photos of the cast they chose. Itโs like the newspaper was owned by a rival studio and tried to make a negative advertisement for TNG.
>>213563917nta but half of those suck ass too
>>213564081Which one and why? I can tell you why they're good
>ScorpionSeven of Nine introduction episode. Pure Insaneway kino.
>Year of HellLegendary Kurtwood Smith guest star two parter that should've gone for a whole season.
>Mortal CoilNeelix fucking dies. What's not to love?
>Living WitnessOne of the best VOY episodes, as good as any episode of Star Trek from any Star Trek series.
>NemesisClassic Trek-core episode with a surprising twist at the end. Underrated mainly because Chakotay is the lead.
>The Omega DirectiveCould be a TOS episode, great shit.
>Message in a BottleAndy Dick/Robert Picardo comedy kino, one of the most charming episodes of Trek in any series. Right up there with all the light-hearted greats like Trouble with Tribbles
>Hope and FearGreat guest star appearance, great story. Makes you want to root for the bad guy.
I also skipped over a lot of episodes I myself would consider good like the Hirogen ones.
>>213563917I could list more enterprise episodes I enjoy and you could list more voyager episodes you enjoy, but thatโll get us nowhere, also what this anon said
>>213564081my point is that Voyager and Enterprise both suffer in terms of writing and consistency. They are generally ranked to be on the same level because a lot of it does suck, but theyโre still both Trek. If youโre gonna shit on Enterprise, Iโm gonna have to shit on Voyager. Thatโs just how it is.
>>213563827Also applies to Data. Which is kind of a continuity mess since there were multiple times a guest character was attracted to him. If my autistic ass caught it, why didnโt he?
>>213564416>guy who can read micro-changes in body temperature, heart and respiration rate etc and>a guy who's a sapient computer with encyclopaedic knowledge of theory>regularly lose at poker to ebin beard bluff manalso they play so much 5-card draw lol, awful, boring game
>>213559896His first film still ruined the Romulans and Spock for the prime universe. The amount of self-containment wasn't down to him though, he didn't give a shit about the canon and mostly just directed the script Kurtzman and his old writing partner crapped out
>>213564528I actually liked ST09, it's a real shame about the sequels though. Still have never rewatched the third one. Barely remember what happened and I'm fine with that.
>>213564492Kek he also lost a game of chess to Troi. I think it was the memory loss episode to give him an excuse to tend bar.
Maybe Dataโs lobotomizing himself to be on a level field with humans.
>>213564492geordi says he doesn't peek through the cards because that ruins the game, I imagine that he also doesn't look at people's organs to tell if they're bluffing by the same metric
data is always trying to be more human, so he tries to minimize being a card counting robot (see: the 'a watched pot never boils' scene). theory and probability only gets you so far as well
you are NOT a fan >:(
>>213564605>Kek he also lost a game of chess to Troi.To be fair that was a call-back to Spock losing to Kirk, but yeah, kinda funny how even now humans can't possibly win against stockfish and that.
>>213564658>theory and probability only gets you so far as wellNot when you get into that Sklansky/Malmuth optimal bluffing frequency shit, at that point it's about your capacity to apply theory, and Data should have limitless capacity to apply theory. It's not about him losing individual hands, it's about over the long run he should, really, just destroy everybody.
>>213564743data does not understand bluffing very well
>>213564807But he SHOULD, is my point. I know it's better TV, I know it's what they were doing with the character etc. But it's maddening to see him endlessly bleed off to a lagtard like Riker.

i really want to stay up late but waging comes first
>>213564925Iโm also not staying up late so Iโll give my thoughts on Captive Pursuit since I just watched it: Mid, mid, mid. I like how they tried to give Miles something to do but the plot was so fucking generic. And they didnโt even give him a cheeky line like โYou remind me of an android I used to work with, Tosk. But his skin was a lot smoother and more pale.โ
>>213564890He should just crush their fucking heads and take the ship over and dominate the galaxy. It's all goy slop
>>213565020I really liked that when it first aired. It was pretty run-of-the-mill on rewatch, though. 14-yo me was easily impressed.
>>213565065ngl I still sometimes rewatch the cold open of Brothers, it's so crazy how he just mogs the entire ship without breaking sweat. And I know post Measure of a Man the Feds are all based and artificiallifehasrightspilled, but surely they would've popped the hood on Data after that.
>so data do you PINKIE SWEAR there's no other little subroutines like that just sitting in your code>i actually cannot know that, sir, i did not know about that one>hmmm
>>213560490>maybe they just make a new thingwe've lost the technology to do that apparently. can't get back to the moon, can't write new shows. just lost
>>213565201Imagine him just snapping and killing everyone and it's just him but the show keeps going as he descends further into insanity
>>213565020>they didnโt even give him a cheeky line like โYou remind me of an android I used to work with, Tosk. But his skin was a lot smoother and more pale.โthank fucking christ they didn't. what a retarded whedonslop idea
>>213564557Yeah, I liked ST09 a lot at the time too, I overlooked terrible plot elements because there were good performances and I bought into the bullshit of it "re-energizing" the franchise and setting up to tell more Trek-like stories "boldly going forward". That fucker JJ managed to trick me again the same way with TFA since he was clearly more passionate about Wars.
Star Trek Beyond was basically a mediocre Trek episode Tuvixed with the weak revenge trash of the JJ movies
>>213558874>The only nigger on board and he has a handycap
>>213565448I liked how he made the whitest man alive khan and then acted like the reveal made sense to Spock and Kirk and they barely knew he was. They would be like "okay and im Kirk"
i just recently finished watching Enterprise for the first time and while it's not the worst thing i've ever seen or anything and i did enjoy it, i felt relieved when it was over. there were just so many things to not like and be critical of and it's just like some kind of vicious circle where i feel like im watching it more cynically and less able to actually engage with it as it goes on because of the things that happen in it and the decisions they made. i was like "now that it's over at least it can't fuck anything else up." my main issue I think comes down to Archer himself being a terrible captain. when I watch Star Trek I don't think I should constantly be daydreaming about how I would be doing things differently if I were the captain because I find the one on the show constantly incompetent and unrealistic. it's something I did not enjoy. the captain of a Trek show should be like the guiding star that sets the tone and the tone Archer sets is just, amateur who gets lucky because he can't die because he's the main character like a fucking cartoon show or something. he should have been killed by aliens so many times over and you just get tired of it. his captaining aside, he's not even interesting to me as a person either. it's all around just weak desu
>>213564743>Sklansky/Malmuth optimal bluffing frequency
>>213565201Brothers is one of those episodes where everyone involved was firing on all cylinders. Fantastic stage direction and editing. Brent Spiner rightfully gets all the praise, but everyone behind the scenes was doing their best as well.
And yeah, the Federation by that point just had to accept Data was going to pull that kind of shit from time to time.
>>213565417Forgive me. I've consoomed so much Whedonslop it's affecting how I watch other shows.

>>213558768 (OP)My Frakes story:
Frakes is epic irl and at a hotel bar after hours of a con many years ago my wife and I ran into him he liked my wife and was hamming it up saying lines dramatically like Riker would w a lady "Ur eyes are like the stars" etc....and gladly took pics w us and was so nice and jokingly asked for our room number (he was being funny not creepy) and then we were walking around the next day and passed by his booth or whatever and in front of everyone in his autograph line he yells "hey there you guys are! what happened? i was knocking on your door w the captains high hard one in my hand and you guys wouldn't let me in!!" In front of like 100 people in his line. It was so fucking inappropriate and so fucking hilarious. Pretty sure he was drunk the entire weekend just loving life and not giving af. He's the best

>>213571297This, but the sadness mostly. The actors have slowly been dying off in recent years, and so many opportunities to have the cast reunite on-screen have been wasted. There is no reverence for what came before. There is no Bones touring the ship before its maiden voyage, no Scotty pulling a final miracle, no passing of the torch. It's kind of the hallmark of the new millennium, specifically the tail-end of the aughts and onward: Wasted Opportunity.

>>213558768 (OP)Crazy that the homestuck guy made these edits
I'm a few episodes into season three of Voyager and Neelix is pretty annoying so far. Does he ever get better as a character? Or better yet, does he get written off the show when Kes does too?
>>213574306Nah he pretty much sucks the whole time. Shame about Tuvix though.
Everyone here agrees that Voyager is worse than Enterprise, right? RIGHT?
The emotion Vulcans feel the most and the harshest is disgust at their other emotions. Imagine having to give yourself the Surak mental pep talk about how your feeling is wrong and illogical, all the time. You can't help but feel disgust about that, but still have to tamp that down too. Being a Vulcan is pain. They're always just on the verge of exploding in boiling fury, kind of like a ...Volcano.
>>213559864That was DS9, they just had better characters. DS9 opened the box and the producers came.

>>213574326Bummer. He's probably the only character on the show I dislike. He should have been written off instead of Kes
>>213563606DS9 fucking sucked, it needed two seasons to get "watchable" and even then there's barely any good episodes. DS9 had good characters but the worst writting of any Star Trek ever. VOY had good writting but bland characters.

>>213574446>Being a Vulcan is pain.Yep. I remember when Spock told Krik he felt ashamed inside because of their friendship
>>213574412Yes, VOY is inferior. I hate voyager, enterprise actually kept a consistent theme. I know you motherfuckers are going to disagree with me. 1-2 is TNG lite, finding its footing yadayadayad. 3-4 are more serialized even more than 1-2, but it was starting to get there. The show at its core was about the founding of the federation. It never got there. Some will say it didnโt get there quick enough, which I agree, but it was all leading towards something. Itโs rip off TOS/TNG/DS9 demeanor is a lot more acceptable to me than VOYโs inconsistent never committing attitude. I love enterprise, itโs not better than TOS, TNG, or DS9, but itโs good. Itโs on par with VOY, but VOY fags suck it
>>213574847>The show at its core was about the founding of the federation. ItJust because you say this doesn't make it true. It probably SHOULD have been about that, but it ultimately wasn't.
>>213565708>chief engineer la forge is nearing completion of my giant choo-choo train
>>213574847>enterprise actually kept a consistent theme.First 2 years were the Temporal Cold War
3rd year was the Xindi arc with MACOs
4th year was 3-part episodes with a few one shots
How is that a consistent theme?
>>213573035you're retarded, got it
>>213574765>>213574496Oh and Terry Farrell also starred in a Hellraiser lol
>>213574306He gets better as soon as Kes is gone, because there's no longer the cringey love triangle between them and Paris. Idk what they were smoking with that.
>>2135750031-4 is the temporal Cold War. Xindi War is humanities first interplanetary conflict leading up to the real threat, the romulans. A prior conflict was needed to establish how humanity would react. Seasons 5-7.
>>213574847S1 and S2 of ENT are still highly serialized. The episodes are like episodic TNG episodes but they always refer back to them and that TEmporal Cold War bullshit and the Suleban are woven throughout both seasons.
ENT S1-S2 is more serialized than any part of DS9. And ENT S3-S4 is even more serialized.
Also there's the fact that it only ran 4 years and it suffered an identity crisis halfway through. It feels incomplete, it feels unfinished, like it never hit its stride whereas VOY just took a long time to heat up. But it DID hit its stride eventually.
ENT just isn't that good, bro, I'm sorry.
my God can you imagine Archer instead of Kirk in Balance of Terror? what a fucking joke. thank God the show ended when it did and I never had to suspend my disbelief and see that bumbling fucktard deal with Romulans
>>213575092>it feels incomplete, it feels unfinished Exactly. I just like the vision behind Enterprise more where I see VOY crawling to its finish.
>>213568952>Do you think that the show would have been better had they switched entirely to the Defiant for multiple seasons? No because DS9 had terrible writing, the setting was wrong for Star Trek but the writing was awful regardless.
>>213575145it would have been kino. they'd have duck-taped a mirror to the front of the ship and reflected the fireball back

TAS I would watch for completionist sake. It is interesting to see what monsters and weird aliens they make using cartoons. There are also some interesting stories.

>>213575092ENT was constantly on the ropes. Each season was simultaneously trying to progress conceptually while having to compromise with the network.
