Benny took it easy on Artie. He punched him in the face once and backed off. Artie then used his much bigger body mass to charge and take Benny down, which is not very impressive and also cowardly considering Benny gave up his initial upper hand to show him mercy.
The French faggot didn't show Artie any mercy, he fought back full force and eventually ripped his earring out. Since Artie is a massive pussy, that was the end of the fight.

Maybe in his youth, and I'll give him he's still quite fit. But he's 60 in the show, right? He had a pretty bad wattle, he clearly had a lot of physical issues built up over time. He got bodied by Valery pretty much instantly and needs to ambush everyone to win, or he's always in a group. If some magic 1v1 fist fight with Paulie were arranged, I don't really think he'd fare very well against any young average male.

By the end of the show I was repulsed by just how sycophantic they and everyone working as an associate were for each other on the surface. It's part of that culture. That's his arc and he's probably the only character in the show who has one.
First, he was obsessed with mob life fantasies. So he invited mobsters into his restaurant who kept fucking him over. He cut corners in the kitchen for profit, which cost him his reputation. He kept doing dumb shit which eventually cost him his family. He hit rock bottom at least 2 times, once with the Almanac scam, and again with the Benny rivalry.
All of this cost him his family and reputation.
It wasn't until the rabbit cooking scene that he finally realized he's happiest and most content when preparing a humble meal for a hungry family, and that he didn't actually need more.
