Agreed but it’s absolutely impossible to have an actual discussion about it on this board because immediately threads fill up with people flipping their lid over the art style (which admittedly takes some getting used to but once the show gets going it’s not as distracting as it may seem) OR genuinely braindead assoomers who have only ever seen the poster and think it’s a D00D WEED show and can’t be convinced otherwise because they like to argue and complain so much. Good show, I think the pacing can be a bit jarring at times because of how densely pack the story is in the short episodes but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m happy it got renewed for another because I’m looking forward to it getting a lot more fucked up as time passes and more people are living with and discovering more about the long term effects from eating the cure-all immortality mushroom

this was probably the best western TV show of 2025 and the only one I enjoyed since Shogun
The plot is interesting and not reductive, and the ending is one of the most satisfying I've seen
The art style isn't the worst, but they used it for that nigger astronaut show so now people here understandably bristle at it
The animation and sountrack are superb, especially the ending scene which was such an unusual choice but it worked amazingly well

Generally I liked it (although I'd rather have more scavenger's rein, which I think was the same people). I didn't dislike the animation style just because it was "ugly" (it wasn't really that bad most of the time), what I didn't like was they way it seemed to sometimes revel in the ugliness, if you know what I mean. It seemed like a hipster 2000-levels-of-irony kind of thing, like the people making it were sipping matcha lattes and wanking themselves silly over the idea of having the brother always be in his y-fronts. And I fucking detest that shit.

I would mostly agree but there are exceptions, I thought it seemed pretty natural in The Wire for a hardened black Baltimore lady cop to be a lesbian, I mean it made more sense than most shoe-horned dykes in modern media.

I’m with you anon, it felt like a deliberate choice to make it look as unassuming and weird as it does only for it to turn into a straight up action drama which is not what you’d expect from looking at it. I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say the art direction is on the level of great necessarily but it’s definitely effective in making the tone of the plot feel more garish at times

I would agree that the points you brought up definitely were pretty predictable but there was a lot more to it than just that, the episodes were all pretty jam-packed with plot progression. I will say I like the idea that there are side effects that seem minor and benign at first but have become much, much more sinister as time goes on. I feel like that’s a pretty cool idea that I’m hoping they don’t butcher or downplay or fail to effectively explore in the second season

I don't think it was meant to be a twist really. They laid the groundwork for it pretty clearly.

I think the tweest will be that The mushroom will require more and more specific conditions to grow as it goes on, less pollution more rare species etc, because it's trying to make a deal with humanity - you all get health and longer life, and we get less pollution for planet Earth.

Started strong, meandered in the middle, threw up a few mysteries that the writers doubtlessly have no plans for, and ended on a cliffhanger. Disappointing. Unlike others I liked the art style.

The show is way too up its own ass about its healthcare messaging to have such an ugly art style. I also heard zero jokes, just millennial quipping.

Adult Swim used to be about being so irreverent it didn't matter if the shows were cheap, all that mattered was being funny.
