>>213574550Freddy vs Jason
Jason X only happened because FvJ was taking too long to get made plus Halloween H20 stealing the movie's thunder, that they rushed out Jason X to remind people that Jason still existed (especially after the steaming pile of dog shit Jason Goes to Hell only had Jason on screen for like 4-5 minutes).
>>213577402i am sorry non-native-speaker i cannot slow it down any further. franchises that outlasted or outlived jason x include chucky, scream, saw, rob zombie movies, eli roth movies, terrifier.

>>213577258I believe he's complaining about the trend to make artsy fartsy horror movies which just end up being gay and boring, e.g. In A Violent Nature. That's not A24 but it's a slasher movie like what I imagine he's complaining about.
Ah yes the "Eli Roth Movie" franchise.
>>213577498i dont really like any of the eli roths and of course they arent all a franchise but it just has to be better than jason x and thats a pretty low bar so i threw him in there. i like at least a third of rob zombie's stuff though and they do make up a vague series.

>>213577836Found some of my old posts. Edited:
>There are no "characters" in any meaningful sense, so you don't care whether anyone lives or dies. Just monotonous walking through the woods, then some annoying pseudo-character who hasn't provided you with even the most meager amount of on-screen entertainment gets killed -- who cares? It's boring. The movie also has this political undercurrent to it, with comments on cancel culture, toxic masculinity, etc. There's a scene where the "main girl" (such as she is) is going to undress with her window open but closes the curtains. Since this movie has no humor (this is important, it's utterly humorless) this can only be taken seriously, I assume as a political comment on nudity being "wrong" and toxic, but watching people get killed in gruesome ways is comparatively A-OK.>I don't think the movie was mocking or making fun of anyone. The whole thing is serious, even the brief levity between the "friends" just seems strained. Also the "main girl" is the only character that doesn't appear white, and she's the one who survives, so all of the white characters die (barring the woman who picks her up in a car at the end). The girl who gets the most brutal kill is the one who tries to cancel the guy about saying "retard" (it works of course and he never says it) and she's also a lesbian, so you can also take that as a political comment with her being killed by the evil male killer, coincidentally a zombie (read as regression/reactionary).>I don't take [the movie being an "homage"] seriously because the movie is so tonally different than the films that it's paying "homage" to. It doesn't feel connected to those movies, but like it's trying to sit on some upper shelf as a serious art film. If they didn't want anyone to think about interpreting the film politically they could have left out the overt political remarks.
>>213578154You're such a fucking retard it's unreal. You're making up some political statement because it's not funny? Even though most slashers aren't funny and that's only a thing that started happening in late franchise collapses?
You're literally describing just a normal slasher you dumb bitch.
In A Violent Nature is about generational trauma derived from the socioeconomic reality of people of colour in the Republican controlled United States of Amerikkka
>>213578200I am not. This movie is supposedly an "homage" to a certain type of slasher movie, which while not being a comedy, is relatively light-hearted in its portrayal of events. This movie, however, is completely devoid of humor or enjoyment in any way, shape or form. The entire thing is utterly serious from beginning to end, with no room for levity. As such, when something occurs in the movie it only makes sense to interpret it seriously, since that's the tone that movie has decided to present to you. Honestly you're just stupid and don't want to think about what you're watching.
>>213578302Yeah most slashers don't have any humor.
>>213578223It's actually a Can*dian movie which is part of why it's so awful.
>>213578315If you can't see a stark tonal difference between In a Violent Nature and any of the movies it's supposedly paying "homage" to, then you are literally retarded.

Only watched 1 horror movie out of the 3 total I watched:
>Curse Of The Apocalypse
FF #203. It's a microbudget investigation Japanese FF movie. They're pretty much all the same in how they go about things. You either like them or find them boring. I like them because I am the FF Chad of 4chan. The thing I thought about the most was are the two investigators women or dudes? Seriously, the one that looks like a woman has the deepest voice I've heard for a Japanese woman. It's also a bit scratchy, like you'd find in a tranny. The other person has the haircut of a woman, but has visible mustache stubble while dressing androgynous. It was all confusing. Anyway, I liked it and generally like these types of investigation FF movies.
Watched Hellraiser Inferno last night, not sure why people this consider one of the good dtv Hellraiser sequels, it sucked. Its boring as fuck, the plot is derivative and predictable, and even though the director claims it was always meant to be a Hellraiser movie it feels more like a random script with 30 seconds of Pinhead added at the end. I liked Hellseeker way more.

>>213583902Yeah it's a big deal here. Me and my buddies pooled our money and rented a limo to take our dates to prom. Steep drop off going from Carrie to Prom Night anon, but it's enjoyable enough. Watch Prom Night II after that, really fun movie.

>>213584095oh cool thanks! crazy make sense though. prom seems like a staple of teen movies haha
>Dream Eater
>The story follows Mallory (Drumm), a documentary filmmaker, who heads to a remote cabin in the mountains with her boyfriend Alex (Williams) to document his violent parasomnia. As his condition worsens, Mallory suspects something more sinister may be at play. As the nightmares escalate, so do the scares, right through the final frame.

The general theme of the series is the military trying to weaponize Jason's DNA to make super soldiers. I stopped reading halfway through the third one.>The 2000s series: Five novels with no real overarching theme. The first one is about a cult that worships Jason finding his body and reviving him (it's also apparently a prequel to Jason Goes to Hell). The second one is about Jason escaping from Hell and leading an army of undead serial killers. The third one is about a couple of serial killers running into Jason (and is ALSO apparently a prequel to Jason Goes to Hell). The fourth one is about a reality TV show where Jason is put on an island full of criminals. And there's also a zombie apocalypse. The final novel is about a revived Pamela trying to find Jason, whose body is now part of a traveling sideshow.
>>213582370I had one fried egg which is arguably simple yet nutritious. Some days it's enough to tide me over until dinner.
Nekromantik was pure low-budget softcore sleaze. Tonally inconsistent in the sense it tries to be an exploitation film with overt arthouse sensibilities, especially with how the sex scenes were edited. The rabbit scene was hardcore and made me wanna rewatch Cannibal Holocaust for the first time in at least a decade. The infamous ending was hilarious, yet it came off as oddly poignant when combined with the swelling piano theme that played a dozen times prior. 5/10

>>213584095 mentioned, going from Carrie to Prom Night is a drastic drop in quality. I'd follow it up with Christine instead but that's just me. They're both decent movies, just no Carrie.

>>213590999Very odd, especially the 2000s series
>theres zero good horror films from the 80s
Not even worth a (You)
I think every decade has good horror movies.
>>213591786He's right though the 80s has nothing. Even Friday 13th was filmed in the 70s still. Nightmare on Elm Street is laughable, Evil Dead is a comedy and Poltergeist is goofy shit.
The best horrors came out in the 70s and early 2010s.
>>213592034>early 2010s.Name eight.
>>213592034Of all the decades you could have said I think 2010s would be down there pretty far on my guessing list.
>>213592034I actually prefer the 70s but come on now... also the early 2010s is a random-ass period to cherrypick.
>>213592034>Even Friday 13th was filmed in the 70s stillJason didn't appear until part 2 and didn't wear the hockey mask until part 3.

>>213592838Seven Keys to Baldpate Inn was made into movies so many times they had to rename it for the Vincent Price one, and horror has been loosely and without regard to copyright been adapting books and plays since its inception, before then remaking them and franchising them
Anon acts like Hammer and Universal franchises really kicked off a couple decades late

>>213593844It's the best FF vampire movie of all-time. Although I can't really name many FF vampire movies.
I've seen some good stuff lately...
Midnight (2021)
Weapons (2025)
Together (2025)
Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000)
the 00s had torture porn and the 10s were filled with found footage
>>213592913The Body Snatchers is also originally a book,
as were:The Haunting and Burn, Witch, Burn to name just a couple.
>>213593910I guess there's a vampire in The Monster Project but that's not strictly a vampire movie because all kinds respond to the ad for monsters
I am surprised nobody's done a vampire hunting FF
>>213593916Midnight is great. South Korea has perfected the crime-thriller genre, and I wish they added horror into more of them. You should watch Character (2021) from Japan.
>>213593246>but the 80s weren't terrible by any means.big difference between early 80s and late 80s too, I would say the golden age of horror was 1977-1982
>>213594046I can't remember which one it is, but some giallo claims its origin from a story by an author, and the author denies ever writing a work with that title or plot, and no literature enthusiast has found the work either
Giallo movies sold on the popularity of the same kind of books
>>213594050Living Among Us is good and actually has recognizable actors. No vampire hunting though.
>>213594074Thanks, downloading now.
>>213594122Neat, thanks for the rec. I just find it weird because BWP is basically trying to find the witch in the woods, and you'd think someone would see the classic van Helsing or mob in the forest opportunities of everyone having live streaming on them. I mean Frankenstein's monster got a whole north pole found footage, someone should have taken their friends to larp around Romanian castles with an iphone by now

>>213597103He isnt wrong.
The "similarity-attraction thesis," also known as the similarity-attraction paradigm or attraction-similarity hypothesis, suggests that people are more likely to be attracted to individuals who are similar to them. This phenomenon is well-established.
This is why you guys keep waifuposting supremely mid actresses.
>>213597226But we post Amanda Fix here

>>213594499>ThornBest timeline. I mean, does this one even divert from the original Halloween? It seems pretty consistent up through 6. Not saying they're all good, but they keep building on the lore without contradicting it so I don't see them as breaking canon with the original.
