It's maybe the best "hard rock" album of the 90s, although it's more psychedelic progressive rock, idk how to classify it. I like it a lot. There's some catchy riffs and creative musicianship, and some really interesting drumming of course, all "hard" or "progressive." That's just me though, I really loved early Tool in the 2000s, and there's some good stuff on albums 3 and 4. Their latest album is shit though.

Quirk of the era, it's just how it was. The old consoles didn't just get put away when we got new ones, we kept them hooked up and played what we wanted. That ended around the PS3/360 era when you could play older games on the newer consoles.

As for my taste in movies, it's predictably: David Lynch, plus anything that was considered "indie/cerebral/experimental" from 2000-2010, along with westerns and coming of age movies with female protagonists for reasons. and yes, i'm from a midwestern state. i had no idea i fit into an archetype but this hits the nail on the head. i have been called out. i always thought of my 'shtick' as being like the 'guy who isn't a genre' but i see that my lack of genre is itself a genre. :(

It's closer to "alternative metal" of the era than Lateralus, which is the more progressive record of the two. I like Aenima and Undertow because I'm nostalgic for stuff like Korn, but Lateralus is otherwise more to my taste. I didn't like Tool in high school and only really got into them around the time of their last album, for what it's worth.
