True, but it also continued the trend of each JW sequel grossing $200 to 300 million less than the previous one.
Which is unsustainable and the series can't maintain the huge sense of spectacle for much longer if that continues. Within 2 or 3 more movies you'll have one where all the kids go

Anonymous No.213584196 >>213594496

Alan and Ellie were the central protagonists, if they were removed from JP1 then you'd need to replace them with other protagonist characters.
Whereas the Latino family has little to no story role and could be removed without really affecting anything else- just have the other main trio get chased by a T. rex at some point. Heaven forbid, someone tries to make a Jurassic movie work without any kids somehow being in danger.

It also felt as if maybe earlier in production at least one member of that family would die, but this was changed because test audiences didn't like it or something

Please tell me how cutting the puertoricans, completely from the movie, alters it in any way.

The family is only there so they could showcase more dinos without having to contrive reasons for the main cast to be in multiple places at once. Without them you'd lose the T-Rex and raptor scenes. Having said this I would've cut either the dad or the boyfriend, 4 of them in that part of the movie did feel a little bloated
Anonymous No.213584642

>so they could showcase more dinos
that doesn't explain how they all survive
You can make a family of 8 and by the end you end up with 2-3 and you showcase the dinos as well
Instead of having 11 close encounters and 0 deaths

I find it completely baffling that you could pour so much money into something and come up with a nothing burger.
Leaving aside the fact that Scarlet is basically on autopilot the whole movie there's barely any character development throughout this thing's bloated runtime. Any character that gets killed off doesn't even get a character moment to establish them before their death so that you can feel some form of emotion. Atwater, Nina and Leclerc are just noncharacters, cardboard cutouts. And the others aren't much better. They had the possibility of doing something interesting with Duncan, since he's been traumatised over the death of his kid he could have gone through some form of arc by having to care for the family, but since these two groups split almost as soon as they meet you get two parallel stories where the closest thing to development that happens is the father getting some begrudging respect for the annoying boyfriend, who by the way has more chemistry with him than with his girlfriend since they don't get any scenes together.
The D Rex barely appears despite being the big monster but that honestly may have been for the better given how retarded the poor thing looks. The dinos in general are duper ugly this time around thanks to the mutation plotline. I hate the tails they gave the Titanosaurus specially.
I honestly struggle to think how could someone find something to like in this movie, it's rare to see a movie that cares this little for its characters

I had zero sympathy for that family, as in anything bad could have happened to them in the movie, and I would not have cared, the father was unconvincing actor, the older sister was annoying, as in actually wanted her to die, the boyfriend that was meant to be comic relief was cringe, also wanted him to die, wasn't into the little girl either, and also the tiny dinosaur that followed the girl was immersion breaking, how the fuck would it made to the other side of the island...

That being said, after they were rescued, and the mosesaur sample was collected, they should have just returned these four the coast, and just come back with a helicopter to the island. As in what was the grand plan initially, to just dock at the coast, unguarded while they venture deep into the island? Also the mercs were working with a low margin, if the ship and equipment was so disposable to them, to just ram the thing on the shore. Did not made any sense to stay stationary, as they were slowly surrounded by spinos, nor delaying fleeing, also the mosesaur was not an issue while collecting the sample, but suddenly had to run to the shore immediately, bullshit. That plot element was so forced. Also the family jumps ship, spinos ignore them, despite being nearby, and supposedly following the mosesaur. The merc guy dying to spinos was so forced too (all actual white characters were killed off in the movie, and only jewish and colored actors survived). Black captain scripted to be the "moral high ground" character, also the jew doctor, and the jewess merc, while whitey actors play the bad guys, big pharma, and merc with the nerve toxin gun (who was also depicted as incompetent, firing into water, not hitting giant targets). Anti white intro, with white scientist wrecking the whole site with a snickers wrap (a lot of product placement in the movie). Movie pretending this island being the only hybrid making site, despite a whole park fell to an engineered dino in the previous movie.

If TLW were made to zoomer standards they'd have spent her entire character arc justifying her being black instead of her character getting fleshed out and seeing her become a more capable person as the movie went on.

So there you have it. Racism was dead back then, it didn't fucking matter. The viewer just had to guess and even then her skin color was less important than who she was.

Ran out of character limit before writing about the lamest ending. Captain darkie making his supposedly heroic sacrafice, with all dramatic music (which the whole movie overrelied on, in other scenes as well), leading the mutant drex abomonation away, okay, that is nice, but apparently it was barely enough, because he offscreen stopped and thrown the flare away, and by that he caused everyone to almost die, because the drex went back to the boat, before the others could leave, and the captain doubled down with recklessness, and risked everyone getting killed once again, by setting off an other flair, to signal that he was at the shore, while the boat was a minute or so out, so the drex could have easily just went there for him, and catch him and even the people on the boat, so basicly undone his whole sacrafice bit, chickened out. Howmuchever distance he could have made in a set time, the drex could make so in less, so as far as he known could have sprinted back before the boat reached him. Could have lessened the damage if swimming further into the water, while it would have been shown him only keeping one of his hand above the water with the flare, could make a cheap joke that would have still broken immersion, due to most blacks can't swim. The ending really seemed like they wanted to spare the jewess, the jew doc, and captain darkie for a sequel, also big moral posing as if these groups are selfless, in this scene by agreeing to share the dino dna data.

Also earlier in the movie it was in your face that the jewish actress was talking about losing a merc, that she was close to in Yemen as her background sob story, while dramatic music was going on in the background, that was about jews complaining that the houthis disrupting the shipping to Israel irl, as if they are the bad guys, just short of directly namedroping them.

Often there are bits that could have hidden messages in movies, wonder what was the mosesaur leading a flock of spinos hinting at.

I never really liked Jurassic Park movies in general but my wife does so we watched this on Saturday night.
It had a very nostalgic blockbuster feel to it with a proper score and decent cinematography. I can see why people liked it more than the two CGI slop fests despite Jurassic Park also having CGI.
People are very easily entertained as long as you just give them what they want instead of trying to force them to eat a plate of shit over and over again.

If a restaurant kept serving you shit every time you went in even the most die hard supporters eventually stop going.

First watch it seemed that way, second watch it was so short time, that he may not have reached her even if he tried at that point.

>>213589619
He did not necessarily came to the conclusion to let her die, it was seconds only, and it was not the only thing to weight, he could have weighed risking his life for a complete stranger, and weighing that could he even help her if he wanted to. Or at least a normal person would think about those things, and not just jump at to die for the first squatemalan that seem to end up in danger immediately after being uppidy and confrontational. Before he could decide either way, she was already in the water, before he could even stand up on a rocking boat she was already in the water. Even if he would have reached her, no guarantee that he could have pulled her up, with the boat rocking, her hands and arms being wet from the splashing water, and with the boat rocking, he could have fallen into the water too. I would not have tried to save her, even if not being a rich pharma guy on an illegal mission, because I'm not attracted to her, and she was annoying, and seeing her dying as nothing of value lost, might be even a morally good thing, so she'd stop annoying other people as well.

>>213589689
The guy wasn't a coward, he would not go on an expedition like this if he was. He did not freeze when needing to fire at a mutant raptor, or get into a car when the thing was nearby. Only seem panicked when crashed into some unreal giant monster. Too slow reaction time is plausable, but it was more like running out of time making justified calculations.

>>213589755
He only tried to move her away from the radio, and it was only him to do so, because the mercs whom would have done the same too were busy with other things. Is she wasn't an entitled, uppidy, confrontational egomaniac, maybe she should have held something to keep herself steady on a heavily rocking boat, instead of trying to grab the radio despite being told not to.

This is what we, the audience, know. Not what her character, the angsty latino girl knows. And for any in the audience that the pharma guy was going to be a villain was obvious, I thought hed do worse shit even.
But anyway back on that, if she wasnt socially aware enough to tell the boat was involved in illegal shit after the latino family questioned them on what they were doing only to get a weird response, no way she was enough of an empath to tell wtf he was thinking from a few seconds look while hanging on a ledge. And much less to be able to fully say he tried to murder her.

Did he even do anything wrong? He never points the gun at the other people, he was going to let them on the helicopter. The girl tries to gaslight everyone into thinking he let her fall but everything was happening so quickly and the boat was practically on its side, are we gonna blame him for not jumping out to catch her? By that metric, scarjo's character is equally guilty for not jumping after the doctor guy when he fell off the side of the cliff. The movie tries so hard to convince you he's a villain, but it won't actually commit to making him a bad guy.

The world of JP is just a mess at this point and the writing did nothing to save it but the dinosaurs were very cool in this one. Edwards makes monster movies and despite how dumb the mutant T-Rex was he can do a convincing big monster. Everything in this movie was like, 2x to 10x the size it's supposed to be, you can tell they told him "dude just make a big monster movie don't even worry about it making sense" and he did.
