What? But that wasn't the moral of the story at all. It's a story of how technology shook up the social order and the institutions are too slow to react at best and completely malicious at worst. The show was all about how the institutions have failed everyone, especially the very people they were expanded specifically to protect. Every character is a victim in varying degrees.

Most of them think they're attractive, but modern society teaches us that playing victim or underdog is the way to get things free and easy. They think that by saying they're ugly girls will counter it and say they're actually good looking and will just magically elope with them, without any courtship that risks being rejected. There's also a sense of rejection being a death sentence because it feels like the entire world is watching and judging thanks to the internet, and if you've been rejected by one girl no girls will want you because they're one huge collective hivemind which is kinda true.
