You could feasibly have both Scott style Engineer movie exploring the history of the Engineers and Xenomorph and an Earth War Colonial Marines movie. You could even have them happening concurrently. You have one movie about a war and another movie about some scientists trying to find answers on an expedition somewhere. If they had not wasted half a century on repeated failures they could have done this and both could have been used to expand the IP and universe.
