On a related note...

If you're talking flappers then someone needs to bring up F Scott Fitzgerald, who was the voice of the flapper generation.

There's a free version of his book "Flappers and Philosophers" (1820) that has eight short stories which helped define and explain the generation.

One of them is "Bernice Bobs Her Hair"; the story of a gild peer-pressured into getting her haircut she didn't want

Most of the plot of 42nd street involves showgirls trying to get money from their sugar daddies. Quote from the movie when all the girls show up to audition for the musical:

She did the right thing. Women should right off the bat tell a man she's not interested. What's truly detestable is keeping them in her orbit, for years on end in some cases, stringing them along and filling the simp's mind with the hope that she might one day let him inside her, despite the thought alone making her physically ill, all so she can continue to bask in the attention he showers her in and the monetary and emotional support she receives in turn.

Idk man, these flappers look quite hot and youthful when you stop focusing on their old style wardrobe like a fag, while today's bitches look 40yo before 18 (Millie Bobby?)

Keaton's stuff aged so well. I watched a bunch of his films for the first time a while back to see his cool stunts but I wasn't expecting them to actually make me laugh. 100 years on and the humour still works.

Try reading some of the shit people wrote in ancient Rome, like The Satyricon. It's literally just modern life but more sincerely explored.

>I know it was a limitation of film technology of the time
Actually, at the time it was likely more natural, the problem came when they projected silents with moder (sound) projectors, which had a slightly different pace. These webms are from restorations, and you can't see the weird silly fast moves you were expecting from a silent movie, since they actually adjusted them to their original speed

What? More famous or not licensing his kinos? His career lasted 20 years from the 10s to the late 20s (like Chaplin's), but unlike Charlie he made a ton of movies. I think he was the highest paid star in Hollywood. Then, he retired and became a pin up photographer (lol). He was really jealous of his films, and never accepted to let tv cut them or put ads in the middle of them. Also, he asked ridiculous amounts of money to air them, so they are still in his mansion's caveau, waiting for us to watch them like they're a novelty (from 100 years ago lmao)
