i miss dvd commentaries. when you were a kid and you only had 30 dvds or whatever. if you had a couple favorites you would just rewatch them, eventually youd stumble onto the commentary and find some more gold you hadnt realized was there.

nowadays how do you even find them? and is there even an incentive to make them anymore? for a dvd there was, because they could shill it as an extra feature or whatnot. but even back then, they were probably mostly ignored. so i'd imagine today, most people dont even know they were and are a thing. its a shame.

Stepbrothers (musical commentary), Talladega Nights(they lie the whole time), Tropic Thunder (RDJ is in character as Lincoln until he wipes the makeup then does commentary as Kirk Lazarus and finally in the credits hes RDJ)

also the fact that people are spoiled for content these days, its much rarer i'd imagine for someone to rewatch the same thing while that was normal back then.
so i'd take that as even less incentive to make them, because you cant expect people are going to want to watch your thing 5 times over and over and get bored of if, but still repeat watch with your audio track.

True Romance with Tarantino.
I think that one 2 hour commentary track says more about him as a person than any memoir could.

Best one I’ve ever heard was the director and writer of pic related just shit talking about production issues and how the writer wanted to fuck the topless Princess. Might be hard to find though.

I like Rudy Behlmer commentaries on classic Hollywood films. On the one for 10.000 Leagues below the sea he actually had the director Richard Fleischer with him, but he seemed to know more about the films production than Fleischer himself.
But I guess these commentaries are only interesting if you care for classics Hollywood.
