Why do anons feel the need to pretend that Twin Peaks is *not* the best that tv and film has to offer and itโ€™s not even close?

People might not understand that TV was different before Twin Peaks, the show had the effect of opening up a lot of possibilities and changing the medium.

i want really badly to watch one of the soap operas that inspired twin peaks but theyโ€™re not on streaming and you have to buy a fucking boxset online if you want to check them out

Well let's see. Television ended when the internet began. This was the last good show on television before that happened. It is far and away the best show that has ever been on TELEVISION in TELEVISION history. And you can't even argue against this.

There were no such thing on television before that. Before that, the most interesting thing on tv was maybe... MASH.

it was a great show. good characters with good development, excellent side characters, especially the other FBI personnel. the waiting room scenes were unbelievable. it had elite atmosphere.

all of that to say, id still take Lost over it, but not much else

it was created to mimic late night soap operas which is why there's an in universe soap opera playing in the background that often times has similar plot points as the show itself

everyone is cheating, everyone has a sordid past, everyone who died is actually alive, all of it is pulled from soap operas so yeah it is cliche but it takes those cliches and turns them on their head with a surreal twist

I'm watching this for the first time right now, got to episode 5. Why is literally every single person in this show (except Donna's parents) cheating on their spouse?

why are you flooding every thread about Twin Peaks with this garbage? Natasha is some pidorka married to tech mogul โ€” no one in his right mind would trust what she says.

S2 having all the near-unbearable amount of filler with this retard. Went on for way too long and was hard to watch in the ways Lynch did not intend.
Billy Zane's arc luckily keeps you from turning the tv off but the James episodes are a massive slog.

There is nowhere near enough surrealism to keep it consistently interesting. The show only gets truly crazy when Lynch is directing, which doesn't happen that often. Much of it is soap opera played straight.

FWWM and The Return were huge improvements in this regard: both pure Lynch all the way. After seeing those, it's hard to go back to the compromise of the original Twin Peaks.
