I’m not sure why you think getting in shape and subsequently dressing better and paying more attention to your appearance is indicative of being an asshole. People with self-confidence tend to take care of their outward appearance while those who are riddled with insecurities and ultra self-conscious can be one of two extremes: intensely focused on external appearances or the complete opposite under the pretense that they “don’t care” often followed by false moral rationalization (“I’m not shallow”).
Further, having anger and resentment to your tormentors is completely normal so long as it doesn’t consume you and you cannot let go. Empathy doesn’t mean shrugging off being treated like shit.
It sounds like you are confusing false humility, meekness, disassociation/compartmentalization, emotion suppression and so on with positive attributes. As well as a good physique with moral weakness. This suggests to me that you are one of those false humility nerds who transmogrifies his weaknesses (poor physical appearance and strength, lack of self confidence, low ambition, possibly low sex drive or inexperience with intimacy) into apparent strengths and positive attributes as a defense mechanism. For example many fancy themselves as modern ascetic mendicants when in reality they do not take care of their body and sit in front of a screen for double-digit hours each and every day to chase microdopamine hits and parasocial interactions.
You can fault Bezos for some things but criticizing him for late blooming is absurd. Better late than never.
