2019 established the twin asians as the fairies, or an equivalent who communicate with Mothra. This was not explored in the movie and anything and everything set up by KOTM was scrapped when the new director took over, who never watched KOTM.

Even as a kid my favourite ones took Godzilla seriously, like 1985. The 2014 film that started this series took Godzilla seriously as a natural disaster. Then it got sloppified.
The man vs nature angle would've set up nicely for Hedorah, or Biollante.
