This is a problem (one of many) in nuTrek. Everything feels so rushed. The whole supposedly apocalyptic Gorn invasion got introduced and wrapped up in two episodes, for example. Everyone's emotions are at 200% because they are trying to cram as much drama as possible into ten episodes.

In DS9, the entire Bajoran and Cardassian political situations, religious strife, and then the Dominion War felt authentic and believable because it all happened over seven years and 173 episodes. Not always the focus, and sometimes just in the background, but things took time to develop.

It’s unwatchable. I’ve seen every other part of Star Trek 10-20 times and DSN leading up to this point several times but it gets really bad at that point. It has all the problems Picard seems to it doesn’t seem that different than Picard. It tries to demonize the canon. I'm watching DS9 for the first time and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. I tried TNG and I found it to be okay at best. The early seasons were very boring. The later ones were fun but not fun enough to make me want to keep watching DS9 started off quite good and got better. I'm on S3 now.

You know, I'm surprised that I've never heard of the Trill. I'm a fan of Stargate and I look at the threads here when they pop up and I've never seen anyone refer to them, even though the SG1 Goa'uld are pretty similar in concept except more overtly malevolent.

The Trill sneks aren't as overtly cruel as the Goa'uld but they are very fucked up. It's not a bad thing when a TV show doesn't telegraph what you're "suppose to" think about something, but they usually do and I'm really surprised at how neutrally they are portrayed. These parasites have people practically worship them and view infestation as the pinnacle of achievement and the best and brightest of their human cattle seem to spend their entire life preparing themselves to be interesting hosts. It's absolutely disgusting and it's just very odd how the show has these episodes once in a while and everyone treats it like it's normal.

And yes, S3 is exciting. I know the Dominion thing is going to be a major part of the story going forward but it's a shame they're back to the status quo so soon. I hoped for more episodes where they're on a starship. Even though I never watched DS9 I picked up some stuff via osmosis. It's funny, watching this made me want to play the Stellaris Star Trek New Civilizations mod, and while looking it up I found the wiki and I looked at the prebuilt empires just to see the bonuses, and I saw the "founders" race on the page for the Dominion but I just didn't register what it was until I watched the episode where Odo goes back to his home and only then it clicked for me.
