This movie is about black people that are angry at the Italian Americans who run a pizza joint. They see only pictures of successful Italian Americans on the wall and then they demand that they put black people on there. When the owner refuses they begin to harass and intimidate the owner. Eventually the cops are called and one of the black guys is choked out. There are riots and the Pizzeria is burned down.

Lesson: Don't let a black person die outside your place of business.

the moral is actually when black people move in, it’s time to go.

Laughable death scene, actually bust out watching it. Also hearing fight tha power ten billion times gets old. Also set in the same place that guy got stabbed with the bench so it's topical.

I'm confused. Why would the blacks be angry at the Italians when the Italians are black themselves?

The problem was Sal continued to be prickly and weird despite generally being okay around black people and liking whatever Spike Lee's character was called. Familiarity breeds trust but it also breeds contempt. The fact that he was ok working in a black neighborhood, serving a black community but continued being cagey and weird about the pictures on the wall and carrying himself like he was always a different thing is what caused the problem. I hate this movie and i hate Spike Lee.

I remember reading that this movie had a lot of controversy when it first came out. Like, could the movie be any more of a retarded nigger movie? Spike Lee plays the "protagonist", a lazy deadbeat fuckup nig father who can never show up to work on time or get anything done. And his nig friends are so annoying and triggered that they manage to enrage even the adamantly anti-racist shop owner.

It's his business he didn't have to put the pictures on the wall. He was cool with Mookie but everyone else would come in and act antagonistic, especially Gus. So it made Sal antagonistic in return. In the end they got the picture on the wall but now there's no pizza place, one person arrested and anotger dead. All for a picture in a wall.

The black community is keeping Sal's as a going concern with their patronage and business. Sal continues to harbor racialized and exclusionary attitudes despite this creating a conflict. Even sal's son who is explicitly racist says Sal should just sell the place. When Sal is first questioned by Buggin he doubles down and is insulting and exclusionary. When Raheem comes in he destroys his radio, calls him the N word, and causes a fight which ends with him being murdered by a police officer. I don't know how you can say Sal is in the right unless you are just watching the movie with

Who knows, but since the familial bonds are much stronger on average within those two groups, it's likely the loans they require are smaller in scope and with more people responsible for paying it back to the bank which reduces the risk.
