Debunking chud starship troopers myths
While it's true the director of Starship Troopers only skimmed the book the writer of the film, Edward Neumeier did.

Although the federation doesn't have a system of government that's literally exactly the same as Nazi Germany, it still uses a ridiculous amount nazi-esque of propaganda to brainwash people into signing up. The film could be seen as both a satire of fascist propaganda and America's culture of violence.

The bugs aren't mindless vermin. They're intelligent just like the federation, they just don't know how to communicate with humans and don't understand humanity's culture. That's why capturing the brain bug is so important.

The bugs being dumb and animalistic yet terrifying and more organized than they first appear is a commentary on the irony of Fascist propaganda which always seems to depict its enemies as weak yet existentially threatening.

The subtext isnt that the bugs are secretly innocent wholesome chungus friends, it’s that they’re a tool for an endless military death machine to keep the populace in control and in check.

Stop thinking about Nazis, start thinking about VIETNAM. I see so much discourse on this, and NO ONE TALKS ABOUT VIETNAM WAR.

Neumeier is a gen-x who grew up on the disillusionment of the Vietnam War and cynicism about getting bogged down in foreign wars. Get into the context of the late 90s and a guy who grew up in the 70s. The conflict shown is a mixture of Korean War, Vietnam War, and a bit of a Pearl Harbor from WW2.

Bugs = Asian communists
War = Vietnam-Korean war hybrid

>humans are technologically superior
>but the bugs (asian communists) are superior in number
>they don't mind major losses
>do not value individuality
>bugs hide in holes underground, and large bombing campaigns are ineffective on them
>bugs use ambush tactics
>their ships are easy to take out of the skies and have heavy losses (Americans had huge air losses in Vietnam)
>BUG WAVE TACTICS
>small caste of bug hierarchy that gives out orders to the drones

The book is a lot better and more a social commentary. Ironically when it was released the book was panned for not being patriotic enough.

>While it's true the director of Starship Troopers only skimmed the book the writer of the film, Edward Neumeier did.
The original script had nothing to do with Starship Troopers at all, it was just retooled to put in a few references. Almost all of the major concepts, like the complexity of the armor and equipment and the value in using volunteer troops vs conscripts, were replaced with "let's just use human wave tactics" to create a fictitious "war is hell" story.
>Although the federation doesn't have a system of government that's literally exactly the same as Nazi Germany, it still uses a ridiculous amount nazi-esque of propaganda to brainwash people into signing up. It's not even "propaganda", it's a Greek Chorus used to inform the audience about the world. And even if it was "propaganda", so what? What is the message we're supposed to take away here? That governments can't encourage people to volunteer to defend the nation? That the government should use conscription instead? This is antithetical to the entire point of the Starship Troopers novel.

Their society is fundamentally stupid, and unthinking, and lacks curiosity. The propaganda is just talking heads and no one asks if there's any alternatives. Look at how long the Feds took to even realize that the bugs had a smart highly intelligent caste that led them. It's a reflection and commentary on Americans, getting into wars, with a stupid media that doesn't ask why they are there or if it's a good idea or not.

Think: Star Trek feds vs. Starship Trooper Feds.

Star Trek feds would have teams of scientists working on decyphering their language, their society, thinking why they started the war, if they did something wrong, etc. The Starship Troopers feds are extremely sloppy, very late to the party, and only capture one with the gleeful joy of reverse engineering the fucker rather than communicating iwth it.

The humans of the film are dumb... one might even say bug-like.

According to the "media literate" people? Not really. They never talk about this very obvious angle.

Because they're aliens that the Federation made it illegal to mess with. They discovered the Bugs, decided they were better off left alone, and that was the end of it. It was only AFTER the Bugs sent an asteroid (due to fucking Mormons violating Bug territory, against Federation laws) that the Federation started to make any inquires.

What you think the films about is a satire on US foreign policy, getting into wars randomly and being world police, but even in the film itself this isn't true.

Bugs do not know any of this, and attempts to communicate before hand or after are never thought of. All they know is that humans are encroaching on their planets, and they just as likely get Fed broadcasts so they see humans are expansionist and militierstic.

There is a bit of a leftie "uh, actually America is to blame for Peral Harbor because they didn't understand the Japanese and bakced them into a corner" message. Again, totally lost on people. If anyone brings up the asteroid angle, it's to say "false flag attack!".

>Bugs do not know any of this, and attempts to communicate before hand or after are never thought of.
So then the Federation not knowing X, Y, and Z is equally excusable.
Aliens species don't NEED to be communicated with. The Bugs were obviously hostile, and likely just wanted to be left alone. The Federation understood and respected this, and made attempts to colonize Bug territory illegal. Morons violated this law, and the Bugs decided enough was enough - with no attempts at communication on their part.

You're basically excusing everything the Bugs did while blaming the Federation despite all their attempts to live and let live.

the feds are the good guys, you can tell this because you feel sad when they die while the same is not true when the aliens die. the fact that some german homo says the opposite in the director commentary just demonstrates that hes trying to subert your expectations (hes a german homosexual) and that the instinctual, surface level interpretation that the feds are the good guys is the objective truth.
