Because there weren't any others. All people have to do is repeat something over and over and people accept it as false history. NPCs repeated there was a torture porn craze in the 2000s and now NPCs accept it as film history even though it never happened. Two theatrically released Hostel movies and the Saw series don't erase all the wide variety of other horrors we had in the 2000s.
