It’s just a completely flavorless movie with zero spark. Superman was bland, the supporting cast was bland, the villains (aside from Luthor, who was fine) were bland, and even the CGI and action scenes were bland. Overall, it’s a total nothing-burger. Krypto and the justice shitters were completely unnecessary additions too. Solid 5/10 at best.

incels keep coming up with new arbitrary standards of what constitutes a "Flop" now that Superman was a huge critical and commercial success, and btfo Snyderman in every conceivable way

If we’re cutting through the noise, Gunn’s Superman fails not because of politics or “muh tone,” but because it’s hollow slop masquerading as sincerity. It pretends to have heart but never earns it. The story is overstuffed with side characters (played by Gunn's personal friends as always) & half-baked subplots, yet somehow still feels small. Nothing lingers. Scenes jump from quippy banter to melodrama to slapstick like it’s terrified of silence, terrified of letting a moment breathe

The characters are rough sketched outlines, not sculpted. Clark smiles a lot, but there’s no weight to anything he does. Lois is reduced to soundbites, Lex barely registers as a threat & is clearly either misdirected or miscast
Superman himself feels like a mascot more than a character. The film tells you he’s hopeful instead of showing you why he should be. It’s surface level forced charm designed to hit a four quadrant checkbox

The action is forgettable & shot in a horrible wide lens throughout
You never feel scale or consequence just blue tinted noise that looks like a Superbowl Car Ad
Gunn clearly wanted Donner’s warmth, but without Donner’s patience or restraint. He wanted to ape some of Snyder’s grandeur but stripped it of all danger & weight. What you’re left with is something weightless desperate to be liked & worst of all desperate to be safe

Say what you want about Man of Steel at least it felt like something. It had mythic ambition, It respected the idea of Superman as a figure larger than the frame
Donner for all the camp, understood awe "YOU WILL BELIEVE A MAN CAN FLY"

Gunn’s take? It’s a theme park version of Superman

Is it the worst movie ever made? No, but it’s a nothing movie
All smiles, no soul
Worse than Donner because it lacks his sincerity
Worse than Snyder because it lacks his conviction
It’s just there & in many ways that's the biggest failure a movie can ever be....

Honestly, I don't even think it really did anything wrong, it's just coming off the heels of YEARS of brutal mismanagement, oversaturation, and people just moving off the genre entirely. This might just be the ceiling for reasonably well-made capeshit now.

I mean, this stuff isn't happening in a vacuum. WB skipped over a Man of Steel sequel and a solo Batfleck film so they could rush into the team-up while also introducing wonder woman and fast-forwarding through the death of Superman storyline all in one film, then released a half Whedon half Snyder Justice league where Cavill had a CGI face, let Patty Jenkins go full retard and ruin whatever enthusiasm people had for wonder woman, hemmed and hawed for year trying to figure if they wanted Affleck to still be Batman or 400 year old Keaton and just sat on Aquaman 2 and the Flash movie for so long both were eventually released DOA after they'd already announced the unverse was dead and none of it mattered. And they made alt universe versions of Batman and the Joker that have nothing to do with anything just to muddy the waters even further and it then it turns out the alt Joker wasn't even the Joker haha. And that's just the DC side. Marvel's been shitting itself, too, but that's another post

WB is like those failed restaurants on kitchen nightmares. Finally realizing you fucked up and trying to fix it is nice but it's much better not to fuck up to begin with because the new menu doesn't completely eradicate people's negative impressions. One decent movie doesn't erase a decade of stupidity. People kinda just don't care as much any more.

>goes to digital
>Makes $2-300m In rentals
>On top of the $550m box office

Is that failure? I don't think you understand the current business model for movies.
