It's easy to lay blame on the parents but in real normal life, parents need to entrust their kids in the care of so many different adults in society. Like if you've ever been around families you'd know that they take them to gymnastics camps, ballet schools, religious conferences, swimming classes, sports, band, and hundreds of other programmes where they leave their kids with other adults sometimes over multiple nights.
It's just a necessity prerequisite to participate in society lest you raise asocial people who never leave the house.
So no, it's not the parents fault for thinking someone as well-known as Diddy at the time who didn't really present as flamboyant gay would be raping their sons starfish with the blessing of the CIA.
