His dad is a "dick", that's the joke. They had a 30 minute play as a set up to a joke that Beau has never had sex. That's also a joke. It's very surreal metamodern humor. It's a legitimate shitpost film with a big budget. I respect it, Aster is a real filmmaker.

Aster is an interesting guy, he looks like a Reddit mod, but the literal point of the film is all sides are controlled meticulously by the powers that be. A nutty conspiracy theory online, 'George Soros sponsoring BLM killer extremists to go in a kill cops and cause chaos across the world' ends up being true. It's a pretty surreal film. A kid who shoots the extremists ends up "saving the cop" becoming an online grifter, all of which he was doing just to get laid. Joaquin's character being a stand up guy who snaps and becomes a villain, his heart is in the right place, but he ends up being a murderer who is then framed as a hero due to social media via the henchman who want the data center built in the first place who just need a puppet. The mom of his wife who is a conspiracy nut is fully bought out by the exact people in power who wanted the data center built, she still spews her conspiracy theories while cutting Joaquin's hair, while she's standing in the backyard of a house paid for by the exact people she hates. The main character's love of his life ends up leaving him for an online grifter with no original ideas who ends up stealing his wife's art pieces and uses it in his campaign of brainwashing, the exact bullshit story he made up and said he escaped from. And to put salt in the wound, she's pregnant, the only thing Joaquin wanted. The film captured the dread of doomscrolling extremely well too. I say it's easily Aster's best film. We really have no clue what's going on anymore. The phone and the internet is all curated to fuck our heads up as much as possible.
