Yeah, huge Alien fan here. Seen a lot of this material, much of it numerous times. Also read a book or two, and some comics. That said it's a low bar these days when compared to the old Alien 1, 2, 3 greatness.

AE is definitely not good. The casually humorous tone, the child-like actors, the writing and dialogue, the plot, the pacing.

In normal time-dilation, you've got it backwards. The crew would experience normal time, but time outside of the ship expands greatly depending on the sub-light speed, so hundreds of years could potentially pass but to the crew this could be a few minutes.

Alien universe has FTL, though, which avoids time-dilation altogether. I think the cryosleep is just so that the ships need far less supplies than for feeding an awake crew for years of travel.

I'm not on board with either the /trash/ or /plat/ crowds, I think it's okay but far too lighthearted for at least what I expected from the series, the monsters are neat and all but the personal drama, some of the shots like the xeno slowly winding backwards and giving a ''sly smile'' to the synth in the cockpit in ep.1 have really kicked me in the teeth in terms of immersion, the weird 1800s costume party with poofs ignoring the danger and the inept soldiers trying to convince them to leave, a lot of good in this show but also a lot of bad, 7/10 for me regardless, as far as modern slop goes.

I like that there are other horrific alien creatures on the ship besides the Xenomorph (to the point that I almost wish this wasn't part of the Alien franchise and just focused on that), but absolutely everything else in this is some of the worst TV I've ever seen. The scenes with the synth kids can be sappy, but it does add some nuance to the old "evil corporation" routine by showing that for some people, their tech can have positive applications (bringing back your dead relative). I hope the synths will mature soon, though, because their antics are irritating.

One thing that annoyed me: if Morrow had that xeno pokeball gun all along, why didn't he use it back on the ship when it could have averted the crash?
