From the production quality standpoint, this is already show of the year, and it's the best Alien thing since Isolation. The cast is good, the main girl is super cute, Timothy Olyphant is great. the structure of this show makes it borderline unwatchable
on one hand, they want to set up the universe, on the other, they want to have characters we care about and episodes that are, for the most part, straight-up action with some horror elements mixed in
but because they can't fucking commit to one angle, it just feels super boring. if we just started off with wendy as the protagonist, without being shown any context about what led to the ship crashlanding, without the dumb rescue-my-brother subplot. none of the emotional hooks work for me, at all

Just finished the first episode, the visuals are nice, the cast is alright except for Timothy Olyphant. I've seen /tv/ praise the actor before but his character is the most boring synthetic in the franchise. The writing is nothing special, I'm still not convinced xenomorphs being on Earth before the events of the original Alien was a good idea and the xenomorph's face looked werid.

They are really pushing the life extention narrative, because them needing weapons narrative have gone fully unnecessary, with the synth, and cyborg tech already avaible in their timeline. But even that seem weird, why is mixing with alien DNA that they don't fully understand, seem like a better alternative to tweaking the human one.
