I didn't really like The Way of Water as much as the first Avatar when I watched it originally. Found the kids a bit annoying and found the pacing not as tight.

But every time I've watched it since, I just love it more and more. Some of the scenes I found a bit slow are absolutely magical now. Especially if you see it in 3D.

I think the reason it doesn't move as briskly as Avatar is because the film is setting stuff up for part 3.

Do you think the Halo dropship is the first sci-fi dropship of all time? Even the devs said they were inspired by the dropship from Aliens. So did Cameron rip off himself or what?

You know what would've made the landing scene even cooler? If it was done real slow and this was the music during it

Anonymous No.213645159

That scene was so badly done. Usually Cameron is really good with scale and impact but this was almost amateurish. No proper sense of scale, no proper sense of impact. Just a wall of fire, even if huge, making its way across the landscape. That ain't it. Those exhaust beams are like continuously exploding nukes. The surface should have been ripped apart like an industrial blowtorch against a stack of paper. The Way of Water was generally Cameron's worst directed film by far imo.

Pitty that the landing scene was utterly retarded. No way that those ships could have survived that.
Anonymous No.213645313 >>213645984
>>213645232
I am willing to give some leeway here because the overall ship design is very plausible, especially for a Hollywood production, and we are still in science FICTION territory. So even if that particular maneuver would have torn the ships apart, I can forgive that because the idea of using the exhaust of a giant spaceship to clear a huge landing zone is awesome.

Imagine if Cameron/Disney did a deal behind the scenes that lets him use terminators in Avatar and they don't even announce it or advertise it. And then we all watch the movie and suddenly there's a scene where pods from space land on Pandora and terminators step out. Would be epic.

>So even if that particular maneuver would have torn the ships apart
Nothing about what they did would have torn them apart. All stress is in the axial direction which they are designed to withstand fully while under thrust. It would get hot, but only for a short while. They dropped down, hovered while burning shit, lowered their pods into the infeno below while they remained safely above, and took off back into orbit. Very well done.

The whole point of a terminator is to be an inflitration unit, so they'd be posing as avatars, or better yet, as na'vi with no human traits whatsoever
Anonymous No.213646077

On Pandora you could use them simply as non-human assets to send into dangerous areas to kill/scout rather than to infiltrate. Just the chrome skeletons wading through the jungles and swamps.
Anonymous No.213646194
>>213645984
In real life that would 100% tear the ships apart before even getting low enough for the exhaust beams to affect the surface. The extreme pressures and winds caused by the beams within the atmosphere would make a hurricane look like a fart. The ship would have been snapped like a twig. You must consider the insane power behind those exhaust beams and what it would do within the atmosphere of a planet.
