I see, understand, and appreciate what his character brings to the overall narrative. But, the show would be 300% better if the writers weren't constantly wasting screentime trying to make me empathize with a retard. I think it would have been equally compelling if he had left with that girl early on and Oswald had just immediately and heartlessly replaced him with another nameless stooge.

christine milloti is also great in this and tv doesnt usually give enough credit to the ladies, she was really into this project and she looks so fuckable in many scenes

Not really. Penguin goes from being on top at the end of batman, to being on the bottom, to being back on top again at the end of the show but in a different building and anyone important the show introduced is either dead or in jail.

Its almost as if the show is completely optional.

It absolutely is cartoonish, it's full of contrivances, goofy cardboard cutout side characters, and the infantile understanding of how institutions and criminal organizations work. The whole mother subplot is super immature as well, when a character is an obvious and barely concealed amalgamation of Norma Bates and Livia Soprano who encourages her son to do crime, it's not exactly mature writing.

I enjoyed the show for the record, I just think these Sopranos comparisons are absurd even though there are surface-level similarities.

How? Sopranos is almost like a slice of life show, unbombastic, unceremonious, just people having conversations most of the time.
The Penguin is extravagant, complicated stuff is skimmed over to get to the action, it's wholly detached from reality (and not basically a time capsule for an era the way Sopranos is) and real things.
Again you can find parallels, but you can find parallels between any two shows, I just think it's selling the show wrong when you say it's like Sopranos. To me it's like saying X Files is like True Detective because it's a duo investigating weird shit.

It tries to be a lot more than it is, and you have to give it can’t be passively watched like average capeslop because they don’t tell a linear story. You can skip it.

It’s the show that caused me to finally wait months until a new shows hype dies down. That way I don’t drop it after a few episodes cause it’s overhyped dogshit and can get a better gauge of what the show really is. Like the new Alien show I have to try and catch a thread 3 months from now, sadly /tv/s opinion is the only one I trust
