I get insulting Vader’s religion was a bad idea but wasn’t it also a bad idea to bring up religion in the workplace

At no point Motti said he doesn't believe in the Force. He just (accurately) pointed out that Vader keeps talking shit about his thetan levels, but regular mud people still managed to get away from him with datatapes, and he doesn't seem to be able to pull them back out of his hat.

Moment before this scene, Tarkin walks in with:
>Emperor dissolved Imperial Senate
>Regional governors will now have direct control over their territories
>Fear will keep the local systems in-line
How is this sustainable at all? Theres no way the Empire would survive more than a generation or two.

Who was Darth Vader supposed to be in the first movie? It's obvious he's below Tarkin in the chain of command. Not even sure he's part of the military. More like a hired hand. A samurai-wizard.

>It's obvious he's below Tarkin in the chain of command

This is only because he is on Tarkins ship. If they were at a cocktail party at the capital Vader would have more clout
Anonymous No.213644829 >>213646904
>>213644696
Vader doesn't have an official military or political rank within the Empire. He is essentially the Emperor's enforcer and operates outside the formal chain of command. I would assume from the Jedi his "title" would be something like General.

Also vader was a sith apprentice. Its sorta vague how that would factor in to the hiarchy but vader is given command of the Executor in the 2nd film

>Fear will keep the local systems in-line
This was always retarded, if the Death Star is used lightly (like Tarkin's dumbass decision to blow up a core world just because some of its politicians supported the rebellion without the knowledge of its populace at large) then it will only send the entire galaxy, even relatively loyal systems, into a panicked frenzy of trying to destroy the station because "what if we are next?" and if the station is used only in extreme cases then it is not different than a fleet of Star Destroyers besides costing the empire morbillions more to build.

Vader’s power is entirely dependent on what the Emperor permits. In the first film, he was mostly a bystander—aside from his role in retrieving the stolen plans. But in the next movie, he had unlimited freedom, as long as his actions were tied to hunting down the Rebellion and capturing Luke Skywalker.
Anonymous No.213645425 >>213646792
>>213645322
In truth it's purpous was to create mass fear and eternal rebellions, as the Emperor lives on fear, terror and misery. His end goal was to become a God Emperor by turning the entire universe in a dark side farm. The Shywalkers where to become his head priests, or host bodies if his cloning efforts failed.
Anonymous No.213645569 >>213645912 >>213645991
>>213645322
This hinges on the notion that people would think they would have any chance of destroying the station. The Rebellion only had a chance because of the weakness, which no one else knew about.

There are other ways to destroy it besides the exhaust port, an impact with something big enough either by directing it against the station or fucking with its navigation systems (like the Republic did to the Malevolence).

I don't even understand how the Old Republic or Imperial economy worked. Like how what are the resource constraints, who are the powerful classes, who are the producers and what do they produce, is there trade within the systems, is there an economy outside the Empire that they do business with, and how large is amount of money floating around in there.

I know its a just a glorified kids movie but with all the EU nonsense written out for years I assumed someone has broken all of this down.

He's not "below" Tarkin and has a direct line to the Emperor with a relative license to kill. But Tarkin is running the Death Star for the Emperor and Vader is on his battle station, so Vader plays nice and does what he's told (within reason)

GRRM would have no fucking clue, either. He'd just talk about it in an interview, make people think he is some worldbuilding genius, and then write the goofiest and shittiest possible worldbuilding in his actual book.
