It's kinda guy to put tire marks on yourself and paint your hair blue. He probably didn't even put the tire marks on his own face, a friend did it for him. With lipstick NΒ°9/

But it's true, the focus on making characters likable during that time resulted in a lack of depth and interesting storytelling. Everything had to be a corny feel-good experience with happy endings and the horror genre was completely dead because everything good from the 70s was turned into franchise slop.

High key lighting with an edge light to fill, not afraid of highlights and shadows, not afraid to just blast the actors with a blue 20kw light on a crane and call it moonlight. what the fuck happened.
I've been on a neo noir kick and recently watched Thief and Manhunter, both look incredible. I even watched The Bone Collector from 1999 last night and visually it looks amazing too.

the only good movie I could recommend from the 2020s is Flow, released last year

thirdly the rigging crew would have dialed it all in the night before the shooting crew arrived

tarantino likes genres, symbols, ham, workhorse actors etc.

the '80s did a lot of experimenting because more or less everything worth filming was shot from the '20s to the '80s... even ten times over considering B movies... nobody gave money for Tarantino to make stuff he has grown up with ('60s and '70s)

also there was huge competition from MTV (launched 1981), and VHS (reaching mainstream popularity in the early '80s)

but most of all considering how he ended up producing slop after slop after slop ever since Pulp Fiction, plus
>In the 2010s, Tarantino continued ascribing his talents to gifts from God but expressed uncertainty regarding God's existence.
>In June 2021, Tarantino said he was an atheist.
the simplest explanation is that for a godless asshole (his words & actions, not mine) the experimental '80s must have been like the ultra-woke 2008-2025 period for normal people
