I don't get it. Why didn't Ash in Alien just bring this nifty little stun gun that was apparently in use years prior? Would have easily saved the mission on the Nostromus.

obviously they would be bringing top-of-the-line tools and weapons to capture aliens.

Nostromo is a mining vessel but your point still stands. I feel like all the criticisms of the show I've seen so far are retarded takes or, "plot holes," from people that have never watched an Alien movie or are so quick to jump on hating it they don't even think about the situations. For the record, I'm not saying the show is flawless or anything, it has problems and legitimate things to criticize, but overall I'm personally enjoying it. I'm glad I don't base my tastes on the mirthless fags from /tv/.

If you didn't read any of the comics and only know the lore from cinema:

Morro is the first and realest nigga we see in the franchise films.
Every other movie just showed literal peasant tier wage slaves working for the company. Not this time. These are specialists.

The crew we saw at the start were just the kind of expendables you got to have on every ship for maintenance. It's pretty clear that they did none of the specimen catching.

Black evil man was the security officer. You'd think the security officer on the Nostromo would have a stun gun of any sort. Not to mention Ash knows about the Aliens hence why he was switched over at the last minute to the Nostromo. You'd think they give this robot anything to help them capture the mission instead of sending him without any sort of help.

Well first of all, Ridley Scott already fucked his own canon about prior knowledge of Aliens with Prometheus and Covenant. But also, just because it's Weyland-Yutani's first encounter with the Xeno doesn't mean other corpos haven't. It can still make sense if this ends up being confidential by Prodigy or (more likely it seems) Prodigy just gets fucking destroyed and the whole thing is covered up. The only witnesses to have seen the Xeno are currently in the ship with no communication or dead.

it's all the additional media released when the alien franchise blew up that added the lore of wy knowing about xenos before the first alien film.
